Conecting a dishwasher and washing machine together.

Hi all,
I have purchased a dishwasher! :j and want to connect it with the same pipes as my washing machine is using.

I have bought a Y connector so I can use let the washing machine and dishwasher share the same cold tap. But dont know what else I can buy for the wastage pipe as dishwasher will need to share with washing machine too(I am sure the guy who delivered the washing machine said some about a V?)

I went to a plumbing shop today and he gave me this huge bendy - looking pipe ( sorry, I am quiet amatuerish with any DIY... but willing to try safely! ) which costs £9, I was'nt sure if he was trying to rip me of so thought I'll ask somebody from here before hand.

    Hi

I suspect he's shown you a washing machine trap.

I suspect the item below is similar to what you use for your washing machine??

What the chap showeed you may not be your best option, especially if you have to fit it yourself.

There is a product on the market that can be much more easily fitted to the waste. It is self cutting into the plastic waste pipe and comes with a spout that accepts the dishwasher waste. I think it's made by Oracle. I have a handful of these I keep just in case I come accross a problem. If you can't find what you're looking for let me know and I'll see if I can find a picture of it.

When I did this, I took the long vertical pipe out of the U bend and replaced it with a T piece. I replaced the long vertical pipe above this and added a right hand bend piece onto the T piece. I then connected a second vertical pipe running paralell to the first one. I've found that this system works fine but don't run my dishwasher and washing machine at the same time

That would do the job, though it wasn't what I was thinking about.

Having said that it may be in the OPs best interest to get a local handyman in. I do jobs like this all the time for locals. Expect to pay around £10 for labour, plus the cost of the part.
