Buying out of a vodafone contract.

Hi.

I renewed my vodafone contract in April 2011 (24 monthes) but will be abroad from October this year so I shall not be needing it.

Now I can let my contract expire and let them continue debiting. No problem only £15 a month. But I'd rather finish the contract and pay upfront.

Should I be looking for a discount from them for early settlement (and non usage) or will they try and charge me extra?

Cheers.

It's normally about 1/6 ('VAT') at Vodafone.
  • Thanks grumbler.
Was half expecting someone to reply that they make a charge for admin from previous dealings with them.

VAT is always charged - nothing provides for its waiver, but if the cancellation involves a chunk of inclusive elements, they may be minded to rebate a part of this, but it isn't a fantastic amount - and not the expected airtime value you believe.

You probably have to report some networks to HMRC for tax avoidance...

Been having email ping pong with T-Mobile:
Yesterday I checked my most recent bill dated 16th May 2012 and noticed that I had been charged the following:

    One-off charges and credits

    Early Termination Penalty (VAT Exempt)

    £31.86
£31.86 Total one-off charges and credits

I can confirm that the no vat policy applies at Orange, so no myth there.
Charges not subject to VAT = 22.47
Charges subject to VAT = -2.90
    VAT at 20% on -2.90 = -0.58
From my final bill with Orange, Oct 2011
There were other similar reports that I CBA to search for.

    Hi jimmyflynn,

The Early Termination Fee would be the remaining months line rental in one payment, minus 2%.

If you need to contact me regarding this, you can do so via the link here with WRT135 FAO Heidi in the subject.

    Thanks,
