Samsung mobile keeps calling SOS /Emergency service

This is the second time this has happened since having this phone (Samsung Wave Y - S5380D), I put my phone in my pocket having started to listen to some MP3s and heard a voice from my phone, I took it out and there was an emergency SOS call, and I couldn't figure out how to hang up.

I don't want to get into any trouble with the Police and am worried this has happened, twice now.

I just panicked and held the power button down until it switched off...

The lock screen was on but I couldn't just hang up :(

I don't have the SOS option enabled via settings where it'll send a text to someone, so don't understand why it has called / dialled an SOS?

What does the 'Emergency call' button on your 'Unlock' screen do?

OK, I guess you don't have the PIN/pattern lock for your phone activated then.

Thanks for the help, so far.

I do have a lock on in that requires a PIN to let me access the phone, that seems to kick in quite soon, and I cant control that time.

I'll try and do a screen grab if it helps?

Normally the unlock screen where you have to enter the PIN or the pattern has the 'Emergency call' button at the bottom. This button can be used without unlocking a phone. It is either preprogrammed for 911 (that I though was the case with your phone) or directs you to a numerical keyboard for dialling an emergency number manually.

I guess it's the SOS button that works without entering the PIN. Is it preprogrammed for 911?

it used to happen to me a lot with my oooollllddd nokia 8310.

inside my pocket with keys locked and i'd ofter get a call back asking if i was ok.
they tried to windge at me for calling them, but as i said to them on the 9's, i took all steps to prevent my fone from dialing out with the key lock(menu+*) and that was that. if they didnt like it to take it up with nokia.
there was agreement that by my locking the keys then that was enuf.

It's part of the GSM standard that 911 / 112 / 999 can be called from any mobile regardless of the lock screen. It could be the screen has bene sctivated and the right sequence of numbers pressed and who knows how many "wrong" sequences have been rejected.

In theory if you have no network coverage on your network but coverage of another it should use that network, but AFAIK UK network operators are not required to put through emergency calls that dont originate on their network.
