    Wrong answer Albertross!!

    Correct answer Stevo!!

Make sure the tyres are clean before you apply, though, else you end up smearing road dirt & brake dust residue all over the tyre & won't achieve a good finish.

http://www.meguiars.co.uk bit of a confusing site, but certainly the best bodywork & detailing products you'll buy!! Halfords & independents stock it, so no need to mail order!

I use "Car Plan" "Tyre Silk" usually on special offer in Morrisons supermarket 2 for 1.

    Very happy with its results.

Many products on sale will do a good job but I use autoglym plastic and rubber trim cleaner, this will shine your tyres and all the interior of your car including leather to a very high shine, it costs about £5 for 500ml but will last a long time. If you don't want to spend any money try wiping washing up liquid on to your tyres with a sponge, don't rinse it off and when it drys the tyres will be a matt finish.

Meguiars' stuff is good but surely over-rated on a £ for £ basis: it has yet to feature as a 'Best Buy' in any of the motoring mag reviews and seems to base much of its reputation on the consumer misapprehension that the more something costs, the better it is -- which definitely isn't the case here.

Tyre gel is also a sod to apply, it takes an age to work it into the tyre and can run everywhere -- and produces results no better than, and often worse, than aerosol sprays. (And the sprays are better than the pistol-grip 'pump' applications, which don't maintain an even pressure and are often unreliable to the point of ceasing to work at all.)

I regularly use Simoniz: it's cheap, it's an aerosol, it doesn't stain the drive where the car's parked and it lasts a couple of weeks -- no, not a long time, but having worked through Gawd only knows how many different brands of tyre shine, I've yet to find one which lasts longer than a fortnight, regardless of price.

Next thing there'll be a recommendation to use engine oil for cooking with.

I can just see a £200 tyre all dressed up in engine oil. . . :rotfl:
