Phone calls from Roxburghe Debt Collectors

Having received a private parking fine for "leaving the site" at a local retail park, followed by the usual chasing and increasingly costly amounts, I have now started to receive calls from Roxburghe.

Latest one was today - they asked me to confirm my address which I refused to do. They referred to the letters I had been sent (which I denied receiving) so they said they will send another letter, then phone again.

I suspect that I will start to receive regular nuisance calls - is there anything I can do about this? Anyone any advice on how I should handle this please?

If you want them to stop tell them so, and tell them any further calls will be taken as harrassment.

If it were me I'd have a bit of fun with it, keep getting extra letters, tell them you dont remember them phoning before (first you have heard of it - even on the 10th call) keep messing them around, when they ask you to confirm your address just give them theirs, put them on hold, sing to them, blow raspberrys down the phone etc. they will soon tire
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Are they phoning about a debt there is a line you can feed them along the lines of all debt is denied, and you need to refer the matter back to your client, something about a credit law/act (??) and then to mention to themthat any further comunication from them on this matter will be taken as harrasment under the protection from harrasment act.

Hopefuly someone will be able to post the exact wording required.

    Play their game.

How do I know you're from Roxburgh? Please confirm your company's address, postcode and company registration number.

Ask if this call is being recorded "for training and quality purposes".

Then say "I deny any debt whatsoever to <name of PPC> or yourselves. As you are already being investigated by the OFT for dubious debt collection practices, I suggest you don't call me again", then hang up.

Not Roxburgh but another bottom feeder who I had no business with.

Them: Hello can I speak to Mr *********?

    Me: Yes speaking!

Them: Can you confirm your D O B?

    Me: Tomatoes!

    Them: pardon?

    Me: Your forgiven!

Them: No can we have your post code?

    Me: Potato's!

    Them: sorry!

    Me: Your forgiven!

Them: I need you to give me your post code for security!

    Me: Carrots!

Them: Why are you doing that?

    Me: Doing what?

Them: Giving me the names of vegetables!

Me: Well I assumed that you thought I may be one, goodbye!

    Never rang again!

    Lots of ideas here:

This is my favourite from that thread:

    Me: Hello
Debitas: Can I speak to Mr X
Me: (singing) He's, In the jungle
    Debitas: Eh...?
Me: The mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight
    Debitas: Hello?
Me: In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight
    Debitas: Is that Mr X?
    Me: (silence)
Debitas: (after a couple of mins) Mr X?
    Me: (loud as can be) a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh
    Debitas: (hangs up)

Lest we forget, debt collectors aren't very clever !

I had a call from CSSCollect this week about a British Gas bill that a tenant ( who did a runner ) hadn't paid. They sent me a letter addressed to Nigel X when Nigel isn't my name.

I explained to the operator that Nigel X didn't actually exist so he asked me if I had a number for Nigel X !!!! After explaining again he asked if I had any way of contacting Nigel X :rotfl:

I explained again that there was no such person as Nigel X and he then asked me why they had sent a letter to Nigel X ?
At this point I couldn't really see any way of getting out of the ever growing Monty Pythonesc hole he was digging so told him the refer the debt back to British Gas and to never contact me again.

Where on earth do they get these debt collectors ?
All aboard the Gus Bus !

I wondered when someone would remember the famous "Having Fun with Debitas" thread. :)

How's this for a standard response?

"The alleged so-called debt is denied. You now need to refer this matter back to your client. Any further communication on this matter will be considered harassment under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997."

"I will also report you to the Office of Fair Trading, who are currently investigating you, and are “minded to revoke” your Consumer Credit Act licence."

The OFT bit isn't legally necessary, but is a nice little "twist of the dagger".
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
