You can be sacked without warning for gross misconduct.
For 30 people to be sacked at once is surprising - were they all sacked for the same thing?
What were you / they sacked for?0 -

Without a period of meaningful consultation and notice (either worked or paid in lieu) is illegal. :-(
I didn't think this was the case if there were less than 20 people involved?

The only similar cases I can think of are:-
* 20 from a large insurer were sacked for gross misconduct, for misuse of company email policy, re forwarding an offensive joke;
* 25 Passport Agency employees in Liverpool were 'terminated' without notice, as it appeared they never actually had employment contracts, to continue after a fixed period and that had mistakenly lapsed a year or so earlier. I think the local MP took up this case, but to no avail.
As others have said gross misconduct can result in immediate dismissal, but it should still be stated as the reason, with a specific, eg arson, assault, theft.Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -

Whilist it's true that full Employment Tribunal rights only occur after 12 months, a lot are from day one, including statutory rights not to discriminate on several grounds.
Incidentally, although there's a huge backlog for those awaiting Employment Tribunal, most tend to settle, although sadly, with the recession a lot of firms simply go bust and then people have to apply to national funds for £.
Even after awards are made, some companies don't pay. I watched a BBC docu re High Court Sherriffs enforcing these - it was good to see!Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. Yes, but unless they sack the 30 black staff, the 30 disabled staff or the 30 female staff, because they are black, disabled or female (or whatever the protected characteristic is), it isn't discrimination. Sacking people 2 weeks shy of their right to claim unfair dismissal is the oldest trick in the book.0
