Fireworks at 11:30pm on a Sunday night...

Just after people's opinions on whether or not they would do this?

It started at 10:30pm last night, carried on for about half an hour, stopped for 30 mins or so, then started again at 11:30pm.

It's really hot outside, people keep their windows open at night and I had to be up at 4am this morning :o I was quite annoyed...

You'd hate hogmanay up here then :D.

Perhaps it was a one off? Someone celebrating something? If it is a one off I don't see the problem with it.

If it was not Hogmany then yes I would be annoyed.

At Hogmany it's the norm here, most people have the next day off so it wouldn't bother me ( even on the occasion I did have to work as i'm not a scrooge and wouldn't mind it as one night of the year)

Otherwise ( as clearly this situaton falls under) I would be annoyed, okay it doesn't get dark until a bit later but there's no need to wait til half 11 and not on a night where most work the net day- perhaps a fri or sat would have been better.

Do you live near the Olympic stadium by any chance?
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

    Tell me about it.

I could hear singing last night too between the fireworks......I think one of my neighbours thinks he's Gary Barlow or something.

I think they were having some sort of party?

You should hear it round here when bonfire night rolls round. It's like being transported back to 1914 and under constant shelling (minus the killing obviously :)). But it goes on for weeks and that's exactly what it sounds like. Mum has to be up around that time too and even though she doesn't have the window open it's still noisy.

Unless you know who's doing it and they continue there's little you can do other than make a complaint to the police but then they're not likely to do much i'm afraid :|

Marisco - No, I'm a good 250 miles away from the Olympic Stadium. Come on now, give me some credit. Do you really think I'd be asking the question if I lived near there?!

Con - I too thought 11:30pm was a little bit unsociable which I why I posed the question.

Don't get me wrong - I'm no party-pooper. Fireworks are great at Bonfire night or New year. I quite like them at Christmas too and actually had some at my wedding last year (June). However, that wasn't a Sunday night and it wasn't at 11:30pm.

I just wondered what other people's opinions were :)

I should imagine they were watching the Olympic closing ceremony and celebrated with fireworks. If they do that each time the Olympics is held, you've got at least 4 years before it happens again, if they only do it when the UK is a host then you should have at least 40.

Maybe they were celebrating the Closing ceremony-or reckoned as everyone was watching it so wouldn't be in bed no-one would mind.

If it was a one off TBH these things happen.

Sounds to me like your neighbours got carried away watching the Olympic closing ceremony and decided to join in. If they are generally thoughtful and considerate about noise levels then you are lucky. Brace yourself for fireworks night and New Years Eve or buy some ear plugs from Boots ;)

yeah since it was the Closing Ceremony I would count it as a one-off special occasion, if it starts happening every week then it would be unreasonable.
