My daughter has just turned 18, works and is sensible with money. She wants a mobile on contract but because she has never had any debts etc she failed oranges credit check. The lady in the shop suggested she asked me to get it in my name and transfer the contract to her in three months.
My question is how would that work, as she would still have had no debts?
This must be a common scenario, what have others done to move from Payg to contract ?

I got a contract out no probs at 18. (With Vodafone)
No debts is not a reason to fail a credit check!
Have you tried another provider?0 -
If she has just turned 18, is she on the electoral roll and have a "proper" current account?
The problem with trying with another provide so soon, is that the first search will come up and that can be detrimental to a "credit score".0 -
Sometimes it is as skylight says. She will be refused credit if not on the electoral roll and nothing to do with debt.0

Thanks everyone. That could be the problem, she was 18 last month and will not be on the electoral roll.
I recently got divorced and moved into rented accommodation until marital home sold. It has now sold and I am in the process of buying a property. I have filled in the forms for the electoral roll and checked the with the council that this had been updated. They said, they have the details but the register is only updated periodically (17th october apparently)
She tried with orange and failed, then with another service provider who said she passed the credit score, but failed the security check, is this to do with the electoral roll?Well Behaved women seldom make history

I would expect so. The one and only time I was ever refused anything (it was a new credit card) was when, we had rented in between selling and buying a house and were not on the roll. We had had a morgage, credit cards, current account the works and were not bad debtors, in fact quite the opposite.
Absolutly no other reason other than not being on the electoral roll.0 -

Just get it in your name for the whole term
If she is straight as you suggest you'll have nothing to worry aboutWhen will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0 -
