I doing a speech whilst it will put the cat amongst the pigions as far as my family is concerned I don't care any more. my OH doesn't do speeches and I feel one of us should make a speech to thank people.

Phew, not just me!! TBH Scotsbride I'm going to tell anyone i am doing it now as I mentioned the subject once and got such a negative reaction so OH and I are just letting everyone (except the best man!) think he is doing the speech! Hopefully everyone will be to drunk and happy to even be bothered :) :rotfl:

I think it is wrong that so much pressure is put on people to conform - its my wedding and I'll do it my way, traditional or not!!! (I'll get off my soap box now!)

I recently had to buy insurance cover for daughter's wedding. I went with E&L as they seemed to offer the cover I needed at a good price.

BUT - when I showed the policy schedule to the reception venue (as required by them) it turned out that the third party liability cover was only effective if it could be proven that the bride of groom were responsible for any damage caused. So if damage is caused (whether inadvertently or otherwise) by anyone else, e.g. a guest or even an immediate family member, I am not covered.

Further research showed that this is a feature of other wedding insurance policies too, but (at least some) other providers have an optional extension so that damage caused by anyone at the event (so including guests etc.) is covered by the policy. But E&L do not offer any extension so their policy, as it is not acceptable to the venue, is effectively worthless. I have therefore had to take out another policy with another provider, including the optional extension, thus wasting the premium paid to E&L.

I did spend quite some time on the phone to E&L and pointed out that with cover limited solely to the bride and groom their policy was a waste of money where wider public liability cover is required. The knew exactly what I was saying and clearly understood that without any optional extension their policy was effectively useless, at least in my circumstances. But they were very unsympathetic and certainly were not going to consider any sort of compensation or refund (well before the date of the wedding), even when I suggested that the limitation of the policy is very significant in the circumstances and, I felt, should therefore have been made clear at the time of purchase - particularly as the purchaser is very likely to be a layman in terms of insurance small print.

So if anyone out there is looking for wedding insurance, avoid E&L like the plague. Check the small print or other policies and make sure that the public liability section covers everyone at the event, not just the bride and groom, or has an optional extension to provide the necessary cover.

Hope this saves someone some money. In the bigger scheme of things the wasted premium is a pretty small part of the overall budget. It's still very annoying though.
  • Thanks for the advice hun, may be best to start your own thread for this so more people can see it? xx
