Letter from PPI Claim Company..

Hi,
I was in town some time ago and was stopped by someone from a PPI claim company offering their services. I filled in a form to (I thought) get information on claiming back PPI money.
They later sent me a later saying what to do next (send them account numbers, etc). I ignored this letter and binned it as i'd seen on moneysavingexpert that it was easy to claim yourself.
Anyway today I received another letter from the company asking again for the information. At the bottom of the letter it said Failure to do this may result in you being liable for up to £500. This would be due to a breach of clause 3.2 of our contract which you have signed.
It's my own stupid fault but i didn't realise i was entering into a contract and now i'm worried that unless i send the info they'll be coming after me for this money. Can they do this?
I'm aware i've brought this on myself but any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated.

Very little we can do here on an internet forum, but for certain don't be supplying this company with any more information (or money).
If you have a copy of the form take it to the local CAB or Trading Standards Office and see what they make of it.0 -
No, they didn't give me a copy of the form. Just said they would be in touch via the post. I certainly wouldn't have signed it had i realised it was a contract. (I now know i shouldn't have signed it anyway!).
All i have is their most recent letter. Would it be worth taking that to CAB?Great melody over great riffs is, to me, the secret of it all:T0 -

Does sound like they've tricked you into a contract, though.0 -

You could just fill in the form and return it to them with any old carp on it.
As it happens clause 3.2 of the Hidenda contract simply requires you to "deal promptly with every reasonable request by Hidenda for authority, information and documents and further instructions that Hidenda may from time to time require. Failure to do so will give Hidenda the right to terminate this agreement forthwith and the Client will reimburse Hidenda its reasonable costs incurred in pursuing the Claim(s) to the date of termination; "
http://www.hidenda.com/terms_and_conditions.php
It would seem to be that, given that you haven't supplied them any information as yet, Hidenda can't have 'pursued any claims' on your behalf and therefore their reasonable costs must be nil.
I'd put in a formal complaint to the Ministry of Justice.0 -
Hi DawnoftheDee
The same thing happend to me.
I am currently writing a long complaints letter to them, I shall never pay the £500.00 they miss sold me the service and when I asked the hidenda man on the streets if there was any money or fines ect that I could pos pay, he said NO.
Let me know if you want to link up and we could help each other.
Regards

HIDENDA are terrible, they do trick people in to signing stuff.
people who sign this have no idea what it is and are told in the street that its no win no fee but not told if they dont suply the info they want they will fine them.
Also a lot of elderly people are approached. And even when they fill everything in are not told what the fee is. The contract is on the back of a form that you wouldnt even see. You sign the otherside of the paper.
Its no good talking to the management as they are husband and wife and they really dont care, as people would ring up crying because they werent told about the fees and were sent the invoice after they had received and spent the money.
A lot of the time people were in debt and by the end of it a lot more than they thought. VERY BAD COMPANY.0 -
I had a look at their website. It says the claims pack is "completely free of charge and without obligation".0

I saw an ad and went with Hidenda for reclaiming any PPi was told it was quick easy, they did all the work, no win no fee type thing. i gave as many details as i could find about previous accounts. received a letter from them saying i would be fined if i didnt provide more details. flipped out on the phone to them about it they said i didnt understand that whilst they would do all the work i had to go searching for the accounts. phoned my bank got some details provided what i could- so far i received a cheque for £47 from one company of which i need to pay Hidenda £14 so all in all with cost of calls etc its not been worth it. they say they are looking into another few but dont hold out much hope. i get any letters for massive charges against what i actually get out this i will let everyone as well as trading standards know.0
