  • surely police would be interested if someone else is fraudulently using their names and has registered them as having lived at another address?

Thanks for all replies. Just wanted to update + provide info that may be useful to others.

By way of clarification, the fraud he committed was with another bank, not with Barclays, but since then - of course he has been refused an account by every other bank he has been to; and since then it has come to light that Barclays have a record of him living at another address which is wrong. Can I say I unreservedly and ashamedly accept blame/ admit guilt on his behalf and mine/ not trying to say we should get sympathy votes etc, but are looking for a practical way forward. He's young, stupid, and was vulnerable at the time. NO excuse I know, but I'm all for supporting the lad in helping him out now he sees clearly the error of his ways and I really don't believe in life sentences for utter stupidity.

Okay, this is what we've done so far- been to 3 credit refernce/fraud agencies for reports - Equifax say they can't issue a report because he's under 18; the other 2 ( one of which is Experian) have issued reports - all clear.

So we have complained to the banking ombudsman and he/she is now investigating reason why Barclays will not divulge what info they have on their records regarding the wrong address and where it has come from. Of course that may a totally different issue to the fraud matter.

We have applied to CIFAS for a subject access report which costs £10 - will post link to that in a minute in case anyone else needs it.

Action plan at present is to await outcome of ombudsman report, await subject access report from CIFAS, possibly undertake further subject access report from Experian at a non refundable cost of £10, then consider going to the police to discuss - ont he baiss that he was duped and was vulnerable at the time. Hope he won't be charged with conspiracy. Then ask CIFAS? credit refernce agencies to note the outcome of the police report into the fraud matter and to remove the offending black mark. That seems to be the only way to clear his record - assuming there is a fraud marker somewhere on his record.
  • did you get it sorted
