Sofas

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, or if there is really a place for this question on moneysavingexpert, so do let me know if I've done the wrong thing!
We would like to replace our old sofa with a new one. My other half has her heart set on the Concerto range at DFS (I'm not allowed to post links yet, as I am new, but if you add www. to the following dfs.co.uk/sofas/fabric-sofas/concerto. I like it too, but have read a few horror stories on here relating to DFS.
Firstly, willing to give them a chance, has anyone got one of these sofas, and what do they think of it after having had it for some time?
Secondly, I don't know what to "Google" for to search for similar sofas. My other half doesn't want a chesterfield, which although similar is significantly different enough. Also, I would like to be dealing with a decent company, who offers a good service level, i.e. if there is a genuine problem they actually deal with it reasonably, without quibbling. Lastly pricing needs to be similar! I know this is a tall order, but is there such a thing out there in the furniture/sofa world?
We've had loads of good furniture in the past from Ebay and discounted warehouses, but that's been the solid stuff like bookcases, beds, tables etc. I don't trust a sofa unless I can sit on it first, but as I travel a lot for work, I would be willing to travel to check if a sofa was ok.
Any advice?

Our current sofa we bought from DFS last year and we're both really very happy with it. Our previous DFS sofa lasted over 10 years and was still in very reasonable condition but we wanted a change after all those years. You tend to only hear about the horror stories and not about all the content and happy customers. I would happily recommend DFS going on our own experience.0

Thanks francessanne. I really wasn't expecting a positive reply to be the first and only reply, but am willing to remain open minded!
To be honest I'm not sure I would ever be able to change my wife's mind on the off choice either. She's looked at similar ones at Laura Ashley, furniture village, sofa sofa etc and this is definitely the favourite so far.0 -
My sofas are from DFS, I got them in 2001 and they are still going strong.
Cream leather was not a good choice though...0 -

Is that the right link?
It looks lovely but I would want to lie on it, sit on it, stretch out etc to make sure it is comfy. Had sofas in the past that looked really nice but were really uncomfortable.De cluttering Konvert.Getting there

Thanks Drusilla, that is the right one. You're very right in what we say and my other half has already dragged me down there twice before I wrote the post. It is actually really comfortable! I was surprised just how comfy given its uprightness. Obviously won't be lying our heads on the arm, but there's plenty of length and a cushion could do that job very well.0

The main problem I had with my DFS Sofas was the stuffing. It went flat in days. They came out and restuffed, again in days it was pancake flat. But then my mother got a sofa from them and it lasted years. By the style of sofa you've chosen it doesn't look like it's the kind of sofa to do this. It's important to remember that people post on forums like this when they have a problem, so you really only hear the bad points4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Thanks Mazza, I was concerned about the stuffing, but really don't know much about sofa stuffing, foams etc. all I know is that we have a chunky contemporary sofa that uses foam in the seat and backs and that was originally from furniture village and it has lasted about 10 years so far. Speaking to my wife last night, I think we'll be going with the DFS sofa.0

Try http://www.trade-secret.co.uk depends where you live but they do m&s and John lewis stuff and it all depends on what they have in stock on any given day.
We've had a dfs sofa for 10 years and it's ok, getting a bit rough around the edges now and should have seriously thought twice about choosing cream but it holds up to two toddlers jumping up and down on it on a daily basis.0 -
We have had our dfs sofas for 2.5 years and they still look great.
The only thing I really didn't like about dfs was the all the extras that our salesman added on automatically, such as leather cleaning kits (obviously not applicable to yours, but I'm sure there is something similar) and insurance (charged per 'seat' so yours would be 4 seats worth)- we had to ask for them all to be removed and got a bit of grief from the salesman for this. Also decide with your OH beforehand how you are going to finance it so you don't have to discuss it in front of the salesman. It is worth paying your deposit on a credit card so you have added protection.0 -
pdje4 I to have my heart set on this sofa but am yet to go and view it. I wander if you can tell me if you went ahead and purchased and if your pleased with it? :j0
