We celebrate our Silver anniversary in just over 3 weeks time and will be in St. Lucia, just us, no kids although ours are grown up now. On the day itself, we'll be having a candlelit dinner on the beach.

We'll also take our kids out for a nice meal when we get back. We decided against a family party as my in laws have just celebrated their Golden anniversary with a big family party and we didn't want to heap more expense onto people. We're also going to visit my parents this weekend so will celebrate with them then.
  • My parents had a garden party - relatives and close friends, a bit of music in the background, simple finger food catering and a 'marquee' (old canvas canopy with wooden poles :) ) hired from the local scout troop. It was pretty much an 'open garden' kind of thing from 2pm to 7pm with a few people staying later chatting and giggling over leftover nibbles and drinks, very relaxed.
If you lend someone £20 and never see them again, it was probably £20 well spent...

Wow thanks for all your ideas. Still don't know where to start though! Don't really want a party as not our thing but plenty of food for thought here. Thanks again everyone.

For our silver anniversary we had a family meal with our two children, complete with a stretch limo to take us to the hotel.

Our ruby anniversary was last December. We had a mid-summer garden party to celebrate belatedly my 60th, my retirement and our forthcoming anniversary. We had about 60 family, friends and neighbours from about 2.00 pm and the party finished about 3.00 am the following morning!!!! We had a running buffet of salad, pizza, chicken drummers, sausage rolls, nibbles, cheese etc etc.

Our actual ruby anniversary was spent at the Taj Mahal.

We didnt do anything. He was in London at work and i was at home in the Midlands.

A weekend away would have been nice.

  • Ours is approaching and I'd really love for us to renew our wedding vows. There's a truly gorgeous privately owned garden (but open to the public) near us and they're licensed for weddings so a sincere and simple ceremony in the garden, followed by a buffet and champagne for close family and friends as night falls would be perfect for us.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We are a long wayfrom there, married only eight years, but we make a point of something for US around the dare of our anniversary. We do not have children but if we did i think this would be even more i portant.

Family, friends etc are wonderul, vital and healthy, but a marriage is about two people. By all means celebrate with friends and family, but i would certaonly think taking some time together for yourselves would be important too. Something you have always wanted to do to make new memories and excitement for the next twenty five years or something you used to do but gave up for family commitments,..a hobby, a place you went or something, or something traditionally romantic.

I hope whatever you decide to do you have a wonderful time. :)
  • We had a party at our local club with family and friends and regulars (was lovely) and then went to the caribbean for two weeks absolutely wonderful.
next year is our 30th but hubby thinks it's just another year - grrrrr.
Whatever you do, just spend it with your family and congratulations.
    xx
  • Hi, a long time since you posted your question I know but just wondered what you'd decided to do to celebrate?
