Ha, you've never tried fitting fitted wardrobes then, especially ones with backs!

No I haven't, I was replying to the original post and it didn't state that it was fitted furniture, I was just using a generalisation.

If I was starting from scratch I'd fit the furniture first. You say its measured to your room and you won't be moving it so I'd skirt after the furniture is in.

Lovely furniture by the way biggrin.gif

It doesn’t make a lot of difference but, in my opinion, it makes an important difference.

If you are certain about the precise positioning of the furniture and don’t plan to move it about, I would strongly recommend that you fit the furniture and then install the skirting flush with the sides.

This means that your furniture should fit snugly against the wall rather than leaving a ½ inch gap for things to fall into. This looks neater too in my opinion.

If the skirting is non standard or unusual, buy some spare and store it in the loft in case you need it in future.

Edit…forget the above. You’re a woman, you’ll be changing the furniture around every month. :p

lol, definately won't be changing the furniture around, there is too much of it. Like a wally I have just realised after having the room decorated that the architrave?? is going to cause problems, we have an old cupboard which we are covering with the new wardrobes so we are blocking it in, but now the wardrobes won't fit flush, FIL said add batoning to the wall to bring it out inline, any other suggestions apart from start again

Do you mean its a "built into the wall" type of old cupboard? If so could you not just rip off the architrave from around the door opening and make it good? If i'm totally wrong in my assumption ignore me :D

it is an old cupboard but It goes all the way up to the ceiling and I have spent a fortune on having it decorated so don't want to ruin any of it
