The letter template, as suggested by CROWN, is correct.
Do NOT send ANY money until this bunch of thugs agree that it will be in 'FULL AND FINAL SETTLEMENT'.
The Office of Fair Trading guidelines should prevent them from trying any other harrassing tactics whilst you are still in 'negociation' over the 'debt'.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Hi,
I still don't think they are accepting your amount - there is no mention in their notes that what they are referring to is the amended amount - it only mentions the full account balance. I wouldn't accept this as agreement to full and final settlement. - Anyone else got a comment!?!
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I'd make it very clear in the covering letter which accompanied the cheque that the sum of £142.5 was the full and final settlement in line with your previous correspondence because that way if the chq is banked then they have accepted the offer.
On another point your original F & F settlement letter was it a template from somewhere as i ned to writ to these people too and do the same.0 -
Thanks.
My original letter was from 'National debt line' website.
I will try to find another letter to go with the cheque.I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -

I am going to send this letter with the cheque.
Dear Sir/Madam
Re: Debt No: 234171
I write with reference to our recent correspondence regarding Full and Final Settlement of my account.
I am in receipt of your letter dated 18th May 2007.
Please find enclosed a cheque for the sum of £142.50 as full and final settlement of this debt.
This payment is made on the clear understanding that, neither you nor any associate company will take any other action to enforce or pursue this debt in any way whatsoever and that I will be released from any liability.
I also request that you will make an entry on a credit reference agency file relating to the above account as ‘satisfied’ in full.
Please can you confirm in writing that you have received and accepted this cheque as full and final settlement.
I look forward to receiving your reply.
