burglars put empty cans/rubbish in the hedge, twigs pointing to the house etc as signs its empty. Always have a look around and pick up any rubbish in your garden because it might have been put there on purpose.
I'm always finding empty wrappers and cans in my hedge. Once found a £10 note stuck in there.

I have no knowledge about burglars, but I would have thought they would use their eyes to assess a house, rather than rely on drinks cans which could have been discarded by passers by. Letters piling up in the hallway, expensive looking items on show, windows left ajar, a secluded garden with easy access from the street must all act as invitations to visit. Oh, and any sign that the occupant is old or disabled - and hence vulnerable - invites the crooks. A disabled ramp at the front door, or a hand rail, suggest a vulnerable person inside. These scum prey on the elderly and disabled, and there are plenty of them about.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

I somehow don't think that the average opportunist burglar bothers hanging about after his burgling is completed in order to gouge helpful signs in the brickwork to aid the rest of the 'burgling community'.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
