the work programme!

hi all, first post. ok, so i'm from burnage in manchester and am currently claiming job seekers allowance. recently i've been placed on the work programme, which may i add, is an absolute joke in itself.
anyhow, the wp has now offered me the chance to go on a course to get some form of an nvq qualification. i felt like i was being forced into it so i thought i might as well accept the offer. since then i've released just how intensive this course is. so i was wondering, as it isn't compulsory (the course i'm on, not the wp obviously), would dropping out of this course effect my jsa claim?
if anyone has any wp experience or any advice in general it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks all.

It won't affect your JSA- but why quit? Time to realise that work is hard work and preparing for work is hard work. Life is hard work, get used to it.0 -
I would do the NVQ if you can. Every little thing you can put on your CV helps.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

it is of absolutely no use to me though. i already have far superior qualifications, and the course isn't really in any way related to the career path i'm looking for.0 -

And what looks better on a CV? 'In training' or 'Unemployed'? Have you asked if you might be able to do training which is more relevant to your existing qualifications/ career aspiration?0 -

i've been mithering my wp 'advisor' for weeks about IT apprenticeships and other things that would be of more use to me to no avail. i'm sure it's been said on here often, but this wp really is a complete joke.0 -

My thoughts exactly. Also any training will get you back into having to meet deadlines etc which is good as when you have been unemployed for over a year you can get out of the habit.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

The best advice is simply to ask them whether it is compulsory, I was nearly forced to get an NVQ in Retail which would have been pointless as it's not my line of work, and I had no intention of giving up my career in order to work for min wage in a local shop which is something I did when I first left school. I fortunately managed to get my own part time work that I am doing now and I've signed off, and was glad I didn't get forced into it. However your WP will be able to give you more advice, even if they are a bunch of numpties, as even if we advise on here it won't make any difference you can get sanctioned for ridiculous things. IT is a hard area to get into, but is there any private consultancy you can get into? That's what I ended up doing, setting myself up privately. Even teaching IT privately for quick extra money?0

Do the course - if you can't find work in one area you'll have to look in another.0

elvisa .... not wanting to do a course because it isnt your 'line of work' is a bit ridiculous/
if you had a 'line of work' that was in demand, you wouldnt have been on the work programme.
surely this says that amy other skill you can learn should be grasped?0
