    Hi,
My son will start school soon and Im thinking of making a flexible work request to start later so I could drop him off in the moring; I just wondered what your experience has been and what is more beneficial? Taking them to school or being there for collection. We both work full time so won't be able to do both (childminder would have to cover the other bit) We can't afford to drop hours.
    Thanks
If you go for the pick-up can you still get your full time working hours in? Allowing 30 min for lunch that would mean a 07:30 start. I think you would need to reduce your hours to do the pickup.

  • I am another in favour of "pick up".

I have changed my hours for September so I will be picking my boys up from now on, they start year 1. My DH picked the boys up 99% of the time whilst the boys were in Reception with me doing it as and when I could/DH couldn't but now we can/could both be there and I am looking forward to it.

I do the 7:45am breakfast club drop off before work every morning, unless DH is off work on an a course and starting late etc.... last year worked well for us but this year will be even better as I will be there too:j

We walk past a lovely park on our way home so a cut through and play to avoid the busy road is always a winner with the boys:)

I was wondering this - yes it would be great to be home by 3:30 PM each day, but it would mean getting up at dawn if I wanted to fit in my 35 hours a week.

You would also not have any flexibility if there was a situation at work which required you to work later.

The big assumption is that you can actually start work at 07:30. My workplace does not open until 08:30 so that would be the earliest start possible.

Thinking more about it, the start would need to be 07:00 - 07:15 to allow time to get to the school for a 15:30 pickup
