Old Style 1st Birthday?

My friend's baby boy is 1 this December and she lives in a 1 bed flat with no garden or anything.

Do you have any suggestions as to what she could do to celebrate his Birthday?

They live near town so there are quite a few things available but she wanted to keep it old style, no indoor play gyms or things like that.

She also doesn't have much family so just wants to do something special the 2 of them.

With her older son his Birthday is July so for him she usually does a picnic at the local park and invites his friends and their parents to join them. (He will be at school during the day for his brothers Birthday).

Money is really tight but she has saved £30 for a day out.

Is it not too cold for those activities in December for a 1 year old? (I have no idea lol mine hasn't even been born yet!)

Take him to see Santa? (some zoos have a "Santa" option...our local zoo has live reindeer all Christmassed up etc, very special but probably too sophisticated for a baby)

I dunno....I wouldn't bother tbh - just have an "outdoors indoors" picnic party on the floor - more for the sake of the older one than the baby...he won't care at all! Defer it until the next weekend day...baby won't care a hoot :)

Hi, please please do not take this the wrong way, I do mean well.

Baby really won't mind if Mum does nothing, it is his birthday after all :) As long as he gets his feed and perhaps a new rattle :D thats about as exciting as it get when you are one :)

If its Old Style you want then save your pennies for a rainy day.

Agree, one year olds don't know what a birthday is. Put a cute hat on him, take a photo for the memory box, and give him lots of cuddles, maybe his favourite tea.

    Same with Xmas.

My littlest is 2 next month, we will be abroad, so no party. Am not taking a present, but a few extra quid so she can maybe choose a new dolly. I will stick a couple of birthday candles in and we'll get her a bun, and go out for tea. Will she remember? Not likely x

  • Chirpy Chick-yes, I imagine it'd be way too cold for anyone to picnic in December, let alone toddlers, I overlooked the December part there! When are you due? I have a 16 week old, it's flying by!

Yes it will be too cold in December. We took DD on holiday for her first birthday in december as we didn't want a party for her. It wasn't very money saving though but was quality family time

She could decorate the house for him, get a cake in, give him a little birthday tea of his favourite food and just spend the day playing with him taking loads of photos.

I'd not think twice about taking my 1 year old out for the day in December! I'd just do it. He might have worn his snowsuit more than once that way!

Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.
