How long does Tripadvisor take?

Trip Advisor is the devil as much as it as a blessing. While at it's core it should be seen as providing valuable information for the proposed guest there is now far too much malicious activity on the site. Furthermore, 1 bad review can destroy a perfectly good business. Because one guest has a bad experience shouldn't mean that a business can be destroyed outside in.
Having said that, I base a lot of my purchases, bookings etc on customer reviews and can't help myself doing it.
It's difficult one.0 -
as has been pointed out if you include photographs then it can take a while, 3 weeks in one case for your review to go live
i sometimes give fair and constructive reviews and do also look on the site prior to booking anywhere
i think if you are savvy enough to be a moneysaving forum member then you can also see through any false reviews
i got a free bag tag off tripadvisor the other week in green
cant wait to use it:)0 -

Still pending, but I did attach a photo so perhaps that is it, funnily enough photo was not even the hotel, just a local scene I took.0 -
I have posted many reviews on TA and they normally take 24 - 48 hours. However, when I posted a recent hotel review, it did take about 7 days. During this time, some other reviews of mine were posted.
I thought it may have been because mine was against the general trend for the hotel (most of the previous ones were great reviews but mine was not). However, it has now been posted.
I hope this thread will not encourage fake reviews. All of mine have been factual, genuine and based on real experiences compared to expectations for price/location etc. I do use TA regularly but have learnt:- some people have different expectations - hence views can be very different
- some reviews are not honest and unfortunately, some reviews could be fake or malicious ones

Generally it takes about 1-3 days.
I like TA, if you read any isolated and outstandingly harsh reports you often find it's down to an incident or unrealistic expectation - eg the shower not working properly. That said, if all the reports are grim then I would expect that there is a good reason!
I always refer to it and often find useful information such as exactly how far the tube is from the hotel. I also post on it and try to give out such hints and tips. Generally, my reports have good and negative points. If the management DO read them then they have the opportunity to address repeated niggles and know where their strengths lay.0 -
If it was UK accommodation you were reviewing you should consider using Rated Places too - they will post your reivews within 72 hrs and also CHECK that you actually stayed there - unlike TA. PLUS you stand to win £250 in their prize draw. We've used them for 2 holidays and the advice previous guests gave us was spot on.

Just checked our Rated Places but there's not much on it. Couldn't find any of the places I was considering staying at in the UK.0

Still nothing happened, so I used a 'status of my review' query form on the site and Voila my review appeared in a few hours. All seems a bit dozy to me.0

I may sound a bit sceptical, but are you sure they check out all the reviews?
If you think about it. Someone stays at an independent hotel, and has a terrible experience, and ended up walking out. They complain to the manager, but get nowhere. So they leave a bad review on Rated Places, and the hotel is contacted to confirm that they stayed there. How often do you think dodgy hotel managers just deny that the guests actually stayed? If they paid cash, and walked out, then they probably wouldn't have a receipt, and in fact probably wouldn't have paid.
Rated Places might have originally intended to check out all reviews. But as they get bigger, I bet they don't.0
