How long does Tripadvisor take?

Tripadvisor

I signed up and submitted my first review on Wednesday 8th, mainly as I thought some recent reviews were being a bit malicious about a place. My review was detailed but nothing radical. Its currently still shown as pending today the 12th.

Other reviews have been added to the hotel in question and it says they were submitted 10th and 11th.

Is it just because its my 1st one? or are the submitted dates shown not accurate? How long does it normally take?

  • It's likely that as your first review it will be manually checked - and it is the weekend at the moment. Depends on TA workload. Remember to check your TA Messages (in My Tripadvisor) or spam email folder for any messages about your review.

Apparently if you add photos with the review it takes longer.
Photos are better posted once the review has appeared.

No disrespect intended to anyone, but TA post any old rubbish as genuine hotel reviews..
You don't even need to prove you've stayed at the hotel, which very often results in some right old tosh being maliciously submitted as a fair review of an hotel.

Normally quickly as a rule, there may well be something in the write up that is stopping it going through?

TripAdvisor comments are someones personal experience and we all have a different take on things, also those that appear malicious to you may well have just cause to leave less than goods reviews.
We all have different expectations and experiences so on the whole best to read between the lines with reviews and use them as intended - A Guide - and you then look at the good and the bad to see whether you think the comments are trivial or important and the use your own judgement.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

Maybe in some cases however, I'm convinced that some people just get off on leaving malicious reviews, I know of one such review that is definitely malicious and completely untrue, the reviewer states that everyone in the hotel went down with food poisoning, apparently, the pool was never cleaned, and there was excrement floating in the pool. We were actually staying at the hotel at the same time as the reviewer claimed and no-one had food poisoning, maybe one or two dicky tummies, which were more likely caused by lying in the hot sun all day knocking back free alcohol, the pool was vacuumed 3 times a day, minimum and the so called excrement was bark from the palm trees that were all round and on islands in the pool, didn't take a rocket scientist to work that one out.

As mentioned, with Trip Advisor you do not have to prove you have been to a place and I'm sure a lot of the very bad reviews are done by trolls.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

Even bad hotels must get it right some of the time. So when the general trend is for bad reviews, and then someone posts an excellent review, then it looks suspicous, and will need to be checked out. The same also applies in reverse.

It may be that your review looked like it was too good for the general trend of other reviews.

This is the same for other review sites.

Why not challenge each other to write a review?
Tell me the name of a hotel, any hotel, anywhere in the world.
I'll write a review on TA. I'll make it a simple review that's not going to either upset or promote the hotel.
And I bet it'll be posted without editing by the TA moderators.
My TA user name is 'Lancaster Lad'.

I don't think that is a good idea, as it encourages fake reviews.

TA can't check all reviews manually, but they can check those by new reviewers that go against the trend of other reviews.
