Looks like Allianz do charge cancellation fees, £50 in the first year, £25 subsequently. see general condition No 10 on page 11/13 http://www.allianzretail.co.uk/content/allianzeb/en_gb/application/content/documents/motor/ACPER3137-Clear-Private-Car-Policy/_jcr_content/documentProperties/currentDocument.res/ACPER3137-4-Clear-Private-Car-Policy-Jun-12.pdf

So we are back to a choice of one for non charging insurers

They do charge cancellation fees, but not admin fees for making changes.

This is not a recommendation, I just answered a query on the thread linked to above.

There may be more - another I know of currently not charging is AgeUK (for over 50s)

    No.

That link is for policies sold by brokers. As previously posted, broker sold products are a different kettle of fish, and expect charges.

But as previously posted on the thread linked to above, allianz do not charge admin fees on their direct policies.

This is not a recommendation, I previously merely answered someone looking for a policy with no admin charges, giving 2 examples I knew of at that time.

You appeared to also want to know.

Things may change, but haven't yet, and dunno why you are determined to argue! .

Not arguing, just looking for clarity

The link I posted was from allianz "retail" which might be better described as allianz "brokers" given that retail customers can't buy direct so if they need to cancel, they get the double whammy of cancellation charges from the insurer and the broker.

Googling for "allianz car insurance direct" comes up with lots of Irish sites and the allianz.co.uk web site only refers to product via brokers. Further googling uncovers that it seems over here that if you want to buy Allianz direct you have to go to http://www.yourcoverinsurance.co.uk which to my untutored eye looks suspiciously like a web address a broker would have.

Perseverance does pay though and, as you correctly said earlier, there are no cancellation charges on direct policies bought from www.yourcoverinsurance.co.uk. That's a good start, all they need to do now is make it much easier to find.

Don't know what happened to your previous"arguing" post I've just quoted, it seems to have changed to this one which is incorrect.

As mentioned in my post above and as you said previously Allianz policies bought direct (via www.yourcoverinsurance.co.uk) don't have cancellation or admin fees

    OK.

For clarity, I did not say (in this thread) Allianz does not charge "cancellation fees"

They do. Though didn't at the time I posted to answer the query here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/53914483#Comment_53914483

They don't (currently) charge "admin fees" for changes mid term.

Nah, go look at http://www.yourcoverinsurance.co.uk/content/dam/allianz_yc/documents/car_policy_documents/Your_Cover-Car_insurance_policy.pdf which is the T&C for Allianz policies bought direct via Allianz's direct sales channel www.yourcoverinsurance.co.uk.

General condition No 10 on page 8 is clear, if you cancel then you get pro rata refund with no cancellation fee. Don't know about admin charges for mid term changes, I assume as they don't mention them then they don't (can't?) charge them.

It's a good insurer for you to draw to peoples attention to, as well as no admin or cancellation fees they also apply the same rules to any add ons you buy, so you can cancel them and also get a pro rata refund with no admin fee.

Will see what they are like on pricing come renewal time

You sure you don't want to just argue?

This is from the Allianz website regarding cancellation fees:

you can cancel the policy by returning the Certificate of Motor Insurance to
us. You will receive a proportionate refund of premium for the period of cover
you have not used. If you choose to cancel in the first year the refund will be
reduced by £50 to allow for costs in providing the policy. If you cancel after
the first year the refund will be reduced by £25.

Their prices reflect their no admin charge policy!

(And do get up to date info on whether or not they charge any fees before you buy a policy from them)
  • Jamie, thank you for your response. I beg to differ with regards to be transparent about your charges – I wasn’t informed.

I am not arguing about paying an admin fee, I am complaining about the amount. I feel £10 is more than adequate for the simplicity of my request.

A lot of people wouldn’t bothered changing addresses but I have done the right thing and whichever way I have penalized. I am just tired of companies ripping people off with fees!

I have written an email of complaint and sent to your customer relations, perhaps you could comment on my points?

"I called your office on Sunday 12th August at 1106hrs where I spent 14 minutes in a call queue to request an address change to my policy.

Firstly, having spoken to your representative; she informed me that there would be an additional charge of £17.41 for a vehicle parked on a drive at my new address. I found this rather interesting because at 1628hrs today; I requested a quote for my previous postcode which came in at £388.98 and seconds later I amended the address to reflect my current postcode which came in at £363.71 for exactly the same level of cover that I am currently getting for both vehicles being parked on the street so, I am therefore questioning the additional charge of £17.41.

Secondly, I had to pay a very excessive fee of £35 to change my address. I would understand a small fee of £10 if a certificate was printed off and posted however; £35 for an emailed copy is disgraceful.

Thirdly, the call length was 24 minutes and 36 second at a charge 21p per minute. I am now left with a bitter after taste of a £5.25 bill for being honest and doing the right thing.”

    Many thanks.
