Why does it have to be an iPad? Does she just want it as a fashion accessory?

I have just bought a Nexus 7 for £200 and it can do just about everything an iPad can do, just at half the price. Could you not consider that instead?

Another thing to consider is the ipod touch. Obviously a lot smaller than the pad, but it does have the app store so she would be able to get most of the games and features that apple software provides, but at a fraction of the price of the ipad or iphone.

If she wants it and you can afford it, do it

  • iPads are an amazing piece of kit. But there are so many other alternatives now that the appeal of them has really been lost. Shop around!!

Also I would not trust my daughter with an iPad so young.
  • Have a look on amazon.com they have ipads reviews there.Last month when i was getting a new laptop i seen the ipads in pc world, they looked amazing but were very expensive, is it worth it all that money, will it help your daughter with her education.

Certain schools are/were giving iPads out free last year to 11/12 year olds

  • being an owner of an iphone and rate is as the best phone i have ever owned, and over the years i have had many... i have always wanted an ipad and playing around with my mates they do seem great but just cant justify spending the money. my iphone is a mobile phone so it is always with me but just cant see me always having an ipad with me, probably something i would use in bed or around the house, so thinking an android tab may be better value for money considering how cheap they are now.

Just wait until October when Apple bring out the iPad Mini (probably), a 7" version of the iPad to try and fight off the likes of the Nexus 7

iPad is a toy. Children like toys.

Come October the Microsoft Surface will be upon us. As portable and pretty as an iPad, yet capable of doing real work.

  • As she already has a blackberry, how about getting her a playbook which she will be able to tether for internet and email etc. These are now down to £129 which is a steal compared to the ipad.
Its rumoured that the new ipod touch will be out before christmas which i would prefer to an ipad.
I have the 4th gen ipod touch which i use more than the playbook and laptop which is the best gadget i have ever had.
