Tax Disc Online - HELP!

Comments

  • Our tax disc ran out end of march, ordered it online on the 29th march (a bit late I know). It didn't come within the 5 days quoted, rang DVLA they said they would send another out, Q. what to do until it arrived? A. phone the local police station. Phoned them and was told car should not be on the road if not displaying a valid Tax Disc!!!

(at this point we took our "disc in post" sign out of the window as it would only highlight the issue to any warden/police)

It still hasn't arrived (13th March).

We live in a flat with on street resident permit parking, nowhere to put the car offroad and as it is city centre the traffic wardens regularly check vouchers/permits on our street. I am surprised we have made it this far into the month without it being spotted, probably helps that the car is at work during the day and only on the street overnight.

It frustrates me that the DVLA site says should arrive within 5 days and gives a number to call if it doesn't making it seem a safe option. Calling the number only causes them to send a replacement! They cant do anything to help you, no temporary disc from the Local Police after being checked out, nothing!

Save yourself the hassle and do it at the POST OFFICE! We will never again use the online service.

I've managed to mislay my original certificate of insurance and at the post office tried to produce my colour copy (I scan in all docs) but it was unacceptable (as I suspected).

Online, they do an electronic check on insurance without needing the certificate. That may well be my only option. It's my fault this is late in the month but how soon do they post the tax disc out if it's done online?

My car is insured with swiftcover.com.
They dont send anything out by post.
So I only have a printed insurance certificate which as you say is not acceptable at a post office.
Time the post office moved with the times dont you think and accepted printed certificates etc.
I cant really see why they wont accept them

Just print off a certificate and tell them it's what they sent you

I tax and SORN online all the time now, easier, quicker and cheaper than standing in a long que of smelly old people at the post office

Unfortunately the reminder states that photocopies/copies are not acceptable. Weird if you ask me, they should be able to check online as the DVLA website does.

I did mine online and it reached me in 4 days. I wouldn't do it again though as it looks like they're useless if it goes missing. The envelope isn't the most discreet packaging they could've used either so not a surprise they go walkies...

I just renewed mine today and am surprised they didnt ask for the insurance or MOT only the registration certificate and reg number.

I havent had a reminder for tax though and was worried that it wouldnt accept the info I gave them but it did, I do have valid insurance/MOT but they enver asked this time, last year they did.

Mind you I did just change the registration certificate 2-3 weeks back for change of address, I was waiting for 15th date to get the tax to start for end of April.
