Other than continue to keep your cool and try not to dip down to their level, I don't know what to suggest op. But you have my sympathies.

I know what I'd do, and that's move house.

You might take the stance "why should I have to" and you may be right. But when one stands up for a principle there's invariably a certain amount of cutting one's nose off.

But that's the best way to put all of this !!!! beyond you.

You're making out op brought this on himself. Lets not overlook the fact this neighbour effectively harassed him (knocking on door and throwing stones at the window), abused him (vile vile abuse) and physically assaulted him BEFORE the fence was replaced and this is also the reason the man was arrested.

What the neighbour did was wrong. Very wrong. And he paid for it.

The op did not have to escalate the situation after that. That is why I said the op was not blameless.

The biggest hurdle to this is that the OP's house is probably unsellable at the moment unless they are willing to let it go for far less than its true value.

When you sell a property, the buyers solicitors will send you a questionaire about it, and one of the questions asks if there are any problems or disputes with any of the neighbours.
Once a potential buyer finds out what has been happening and that the police have been called a few times, I can't see them continuing with the purchase.

As I understand, I believe that only 'outstanding disputes' need to be declared.

From what I read your neighbour could be the one on drugs,I understand your frustration at the police actions but sadly their hands are tied these days with so much "human rights" legislation they are almost afraid to take action.I would find it very hard myself not to react if someone was banging on my doors and windows late at night and can only echo other posters who suggested installing your own cctv, that way you will have your own video evidence.
I can only wish you good luck with this as neighbour disputes are always difficult to settle amicably.

would you want to live next door to him?!

my sympathies mate. my brothers having a similar prob with his next door neighbour.

the best outcome is you dont acknowledge him and vice versa. hard to do as hes the one intitating things but will he get bored talking to himself?!?

is the house a semi or detached? the cctv is a great idea.

you dont know the value of peace till its gone
