Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 12th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in,put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you goto bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you haveto though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all,

Another glorious day here, got our bedding in the wm and will get dd to strip hers once she is up, will leave her in bed for a while as she has been working so hard.

Finally got all the paint off the walls yesterday, worked out that its taken 30 hours , the lounge looks worse than ever but we can start to put it back together now, today we need to plaster the chimney breast, we have a chap coming into skim the walls in the week but the chimney needs plastering.

Little dog has taken to sleeping in the hole where the fire goes (photos on fb) its a bit of a squeeze, but she loves it, I think she may be having a phantom pregnancy as she keeps taking her toys in there .

The rest of the cheesy nabs for dinner, I really dont feel like cooking after being a labourer all day :D

Donny I love your skye, what a little character xxxx

Hugs to all in need, have good days all xx

Loved the limpics yesterday, Mo, and Tom were brilliant, and what a show Bolt puts on, I am sad that its finishing :(

  • Good morning redruby, sistercas and to all who cross/follow,
Another lovely day here. Ihave one load of washing out and another one in the machine. I want to get the bed linen washed today as well.
General tidy up of the garden today. It shouldn't take too long. We will be going over the allotment just to dig up some potatoes and to pick some more french beans and carrots for dinner. Will get the eggs too. We have been getting a full nine off the girls on most days, so they are doing well.
Going to visit hubbys nan today. She has started to improve a little although her blood pressure still keeps going sky high. SIL is coming round at some stage today.
Redruby, having your lounge plastered/skimmed will transform it. It will make all the hours seem worth while and will look lovely.
Sistercas, enjoy your lunch with mil. I can't believe how the weekends fly by either.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Morning all

We had thunder and lightening last night, but it's still very close and cloudy out. Don't think the sun will appear much today.

I have been biten to death the last few days :( not sure why. I am always very tasty to mossies when abroad, but not in UK.

No plans for today, but I feel like I should get out and do something. Will decide later. Otherwise it will be a sorting and batch cooking day.

OS wise - dishes to wash, may pop to Aldi for fresh veg.

    Have a fab day all

Hubby & I were both awake at 2 this morning, I made us both a cuppa & him a bacon sarnie & we had a natter & then fell asleep again at 5, alarm went off at 6:30 so we were both up & I dropped him at work.
I've washing on the line I've pottered in the garden watered the hanging baskets etc.
Today main job is to sort out a huge box of paperwork that is lurking in the spare room that will be the 4th box I've emptied. I have 8 bin bags of fabric scraps/rags/old bedding to exchange for cash tomorrow, this will give us a little extra spending money when we go away.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Good Morning everyone and what a glorious morning it is here in Kent. The sun is blazing down already.I did all of my ironing last night so I'm up to date with everything,Just wrapped to gifts for my DDs my eldests 24th wedding anniversery is tomorrow and her sisters is on Tuesday. Can't ever forget the dates.I bought them both a nice vase from John Lewis' I always try to get them something they wouldn't go out and treat themselves to.Youngest Dds marriage is her second one so there is still lots of things she is short of.Her ma in law came to visit them yesterday but I doubt she makes the effort as she's not very close to either her son or her grandchildren .She is just not a very maternal person.Sad really as the four boys are such great little people and I adore them.Only 6 more days until we go.My house is full of things hanging up on hangers and boxes here and there to pack tins and bits in.We try to take a lot of stuff with us to save on buying so I have been putting bits by for the past few months .just basic bits cleanig stuff and washing powder and tins of odds and ends It all helps keep the bills down whilst we are away.Right I'm off to get a shower and some breakfast as my eldest is due for her pot of coffee and natter mid morning so I will try to tidy up a little before she gets here
have a good day everyone and I hope the sun is shining down upon you all

    Morning All

Up early (6.30) to see my visitors off. They asked if I could make them pancakes for breakfast before they left. DD has taken them to Glasgow to get their lift back to London. They will be flying back to South Africa on Thursday. They bought DD a rugby shirt and myself a couple of bottles of wine which was lovely.

Stayed up chatting to DD and visitors last night after work so it was a bit of a late night. I may have to have a nap this afternoon before I start work at 5!

Have stripped the beds, one load of work clothes on the line - just hoping the rain stays away till it's all dried.

Donny - Skye is beautiful and very entertaining too!

Have a good Sunday everyone. Take care. XX

Oh well another night of men not wearing much. Bit like last night :rotfl: it's a dirty job but someones gotta do it ;)

Off to enrol Luna and me into dog training this morning.
Lawn needs cutting, back hedge needs trimming, vac to go round and my grandmother is popping round for a visit with my parents. Eek I need to get this house straight

No idea about tea, probably chicken.

Hugs and spoons all round xxx

  • Morning everyone. I'm on a bit of a go slow this morning. I have chronic fatigue syndrome and in the process of recovering from a relapse. I think I did too much yesterday which has left me stiff and hurting. But I'm still going to try and make the most of the day :-)

We had a bit of sun here first thing but it's quite dull now. So far I've tidied up and the kitchen and wiped down the surfaces and am about to put some washing on. I'm hoping to put up a kind of picture arrangement on the landing wall today, as I have lots of frames here and there. Not sure how to start though! Hopefully if I am able to I will go and visit a friend this afternoon. It's nice to get out of the house :-)

I hope everyone has a good day x

DH is driving DD to her part time job and we are all on tenterhooks for results day on Thursday - fingers crossed she gets the results she wants and does not need to go through clearing.

Four wash loads on the line (scooped of dd's floorrobe) and have a lamb casserole with onions, carrots, mushrooms and tiny potatoes in a low oven in a cast iron pot. Decided on a one pot meal that can be left so I can put my leg up and rest it.

Have a great holiday - you all deserve it.

Seems Avon's skinsosoft works brilliantly against insects, especially midgies.

Spent the last few days looking at laptops for dd so did not get much done in the house but kitchen got done yesterday and dds did the living room. Finally found something suitable for dd when she goes to uni and not only does it have good memory, speed and added office, excel etc to it - but she loves it. Got all data transferred by shop and DH is nabbing her old one so everyone is happy.

Hugs to all and see you later.
