Without any regular income would he not have a hard time getting a Credit card anyway?
As I'm currently a student I'd say the student ones are the way to go, although it does mean waiting until Aug/Sept. Get a student current account with a nice overdraft (interest free) and they'll throw in a credit card to boot. There will also be a lot of free gifts on offer in Sept/Oct. Having just done some market research on this exact subject, some of the free gifts may be interesting this year, if not a bit gimmicky. That said, one bank are notorious for the free student rail card which saves a packet if he's moving away from home...0
