Been charged by CPP for product I didn't want

Hi all,
Just looking for general advice really. I just noticed that 3 days ago a direct debit left my account, for £89.99, to CPP limited. Having googled them (as have never heard of them) and looked through their website I suspect that I have been charged an annual fee for their Identity insurance. Neither my husband nor I have any recollection of applying for this, or providing bank details and we certainly haven't signed a direct debit mandate.
I am currently on hold to CPP (its been 33minutes so far) to try and find out further details but was wondering if anyone had any words of wisdom for me.
I have no policy details, no paperwork from them, nothing at all. I had never heard of them until I saw the payment from my account and googled their name!

Sorry - forgot to mention that i've checked our historical transactions and this appears to be the first ever payment to them, so obviously something that has happened recently0

Why don't you ring your Bank to query this Direct Debit? The Bank should be able to tell you when you gave the instruction to them to pay this firm.
Do be aware that they are very likely to be legitimately drawing money from your account and you probably know them as something else entirely.
Not sure the PPI forum is the best place for your query, by the way!0 -
Am just messaging my hubby to get him to call Natwest (am still on hold to CPP myself, and having invested 40 mins, don't want to hang up yet!)
Can't think of anything that I have recently signed up to. The only time I have given out my bank details recently was to a market research company that I did some work for. Hubby definitely hasn't - he's on tour in the middle east with the RAF! lol0 -
Ooh, sorry I thought this was the place for mis-sold insurance products! Where should I have posted? (Am still quite new here!)0

I certainly never knowingly ordered!
(Is there a forum for what to do in the event of a robbery??)
The irony of the possibility of identity theft resulting in an identity theft insurance policy being purchased has not been lost on me...0 -
If you haven't signed up for anything you should be able to get your money back. They recently took money from my cc for a 2007 policy, called the bank first and they advised me to call them. I actually e mailed them via their website, they responded in a couple of days and reversed the payment without question.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off
1% over payments on cc 3.5/100 (March 2014)0 -
Thanks TaaDaa - will wait until phone hits 60 mins on hold then hang up and go down the email route. Wasn't sure if they were likely respond that way, so good to know they do.0

how did this work out? did they finally answer?0

Nope. After almost 70 minutes on hold (and email composed and ready to send), hubby messaged me to say he had got through to Natwest, they are refunding the payment on Monday and cancelling the direct debit. They are also launching an investigation to find out how it happened.
I do rather love our bank. They have always been absolutely brill (and they send us wine when they do make mistakes!)0
