I do rather love our bank. They have always been absolutely brill (and they send us wine when they do make mistakes!)

They may not have made the mistake. The direct debit system is largely controlled by companies that submit the payments. They submit the requests for money. Not the bank. With disputed direct debits the bank is required to refund the money and give the originator a period to prove whether it was valid or not. If they can, the bank will redebit the money from the account. If they cant, then you wont hear about it again unless it turned out that legal action is possibly going to be taken.

  • Sorry - I meant that when they have made mistakes before (they once set up a direct debit from our account to a charity because the person in the call centre didn't close our details down before she set up the DD for the next caller!). We got a case a wine from them as well as all moneys returned and interest paid.

Am not thinking this situation is their fault at all!
  • Interestingly, I have had a response to the email I sent CPP last night. Having provided them with my name, address and telephone number, they have been unable to find any policy details for me, and could I please provide them with my policy number, or call them.

Have explained that I have no policy documents - hence my concern about them taking money I haven't agreed to! And no I am not calling them to be put on hold for over an hour again. Have suggested that as they have my number, they call me to discuss the fact they have taken £90 out of my account that I don't recall agreeing to!

Let the Bank sort out the "error". You have been refunded and the Direct Debit cancelled.
You have nothing left to worry about.
