Listening to TV via speakers

You plug it into the headphone socket of your TV and the Aux socket of your HIFI. If you havent got an Aux socket on your HIFI then I suppose you could plug it into your Mic socket instead on the HIFI as this is an input socket.
You will need to put your HIFI on Aux in order for it to work.
Hope this helps0 -
I didn't explain myself well enough.
It did work. The only surprise was that the TV volume needed to be on. I was expecting the sound to come from the speakers with the TV volume turned off. The only way to get sound through the speakers ( separate ones) is to have the TV volume up even though the sound isn't coming from the TV.
It sounds great. Thanks for providing me with a cheap and easy solution.0 -

Glad you are happy with the result.
Each brand of TV will work different. I had an old Sony CRT when I first did this and I too had to have the TV volume up . I now have a Panasonic LED and don't need to. If you have a quick look through the TV menu, you may find that there is a setting for the headphone volume on there. Turn that up 1/2-3/4 and you may find that the HIFI volume works better now. Any more and you may get buzzing through the Hifi speakers..
Unless you want total suround sound experience this IMO is the cheapest and easiest way of making your TV sound better0 -

The reason for this is that the tv thinks your listening to the sound through headphones (you used the headphone socket on the TV)
as such it regulates the volume of the sound, so as to not blow your ears off if you were actually using headphones (the tv doesnt 'know' what is plugged in at the end of the cable)
this is different to other audio out channels as the tv knows that it is going to another machine so it out puts at the same level regardless of what the tv volume is set at.
If you set the tv volume to mid level it should increase the sound quality (as the external system will get a stronger signal).
Glad it worked for you!0
