  • Make and model of your TV please.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • If, according to the PDF, your TV has a headphone output, you could either get a 3.5mm stereo lead to whatever sockets your amplifier supports at its auxiliary (AUX) connection, if it has one, probably phono (RCA) sockets or even a 3.5mm stereo socket for iPod or mp3 player type mini amplifiers. If your amplifier supports a coaxial connection this is the way to go as the signal should be better.

I think you have just provided me with a nice cheap solution. Is this what you mean?

Unfortunately the blu-ray only has optical input not coax so the headphone socket may well be the way to go. Thanks for your help

Yes, that's the one. I'm surprised your blu-ray player has audio in, are you sure it's not audio out? You could use any computer speakers or mp3 speakers with built-in amplifiers available with a twin 3.5mm stereo lead, the bigger the better. I put my portable TV through an ancient stereo this way, which sounds heaps better than the built-in speakers on the TV.
  • What's the blu-ray player connected to that will deliver the sound? (Amplifier/speakers set-up). It might be better to consider a standalone product that will stand either side of your TV. Google "multimedia speakers" for something within your budget, they're used with computers, mp3 players, in fact anything with a line level signal like your TV.

Assuming the Blu-Ray to be connected to an existing amp/speaker setup, all the OP needs is a coaxial to optical convertor, with the associated leads to connect one end to the TV and the other to the BR.

They all look to be much of a muchness.

When assessing their prices, take into account that you'll need to buy separate leads/cables for them - what you're buying is a converter 'box' not a converter 'lead'

I haven't got surround sound or anything like that. But what I have done is the following.

I was bought a Bose wave music system by my OH for Christmas, but apart from using it every now and again. it was swithched off and gathering dust. I just decided one day to buy a cheap headphone lead from Maplins and plug each end into the TV and Bose sysytem. The sound is Fantastic. I keep tthe TV speakers on zero and just use the Bose remote for the volume.
It is so crisp and filled the room with sound. Well recommended. You ould just do the same with your own HIFI equipment.

I've posted a much better solution for JulyKnot in their other thread. Hope you haven't bought anything yet!
rustyboy21's suggestion is indeed an excellent one for a no or low spend solution to the rubbish sound on most TVs.
