Are there any advantages with an N class router compared to a standard one?

O2 claim their unlimited option isn't traffic managed unlike what I am on now, will this influence me on 1.5 mB/s? In other words when they 'manage' bandwidth is it limited in proportion or capped at a top speed?
It certainly won't INCREASE it, your line physically can't handle much faster (see my post above). It may alter your data throughput for certain types of data (i.e. torrents, p2p, etc. will be restricted, normal browsing won't be affected)
Put your d/s attenuation of 64 dB in here to see for yourself what I was talking about earlier:-

This is the most accurate max speed calculator out there, as it's based on the physical characteristics of your phone line.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

exactly !!! That's about the MAX you'll SYNC at, throughput is normally around 85% of sync, but traffic management is normally specific to things like p2p and torrents so will be slower.
If your router can't sync around 1800-2000kb/s, then you probably have a fault somewhere, call O2 and get them to investigate.
And, as mentioned earlier, if you want faster than 2meg, you'll need to go fibre-optic...........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
