Are there any advantages with an N class router compared to a standard one?

Is an N class router is this likely to be faster for downloading rather than just uploading?

O2 claim this package isn't traffic managed like my present one. Can't say I'm interested in xbox or sky though.

I always seem to get the same about 1.5mB/s although O2 claim it should be around 3mB/s in my location.

    Megabits (Mb)? Megabytes (MB)?
Either way, your current (presumably 802.11G) router's wireless link shouldn't be a bottleneck on your download speeds. An N spec router would just allow the devices in your house to talk to each other faster if they were also suitably equipped.
What does your router's admin pages show as the line sync speed?

    Not sure is it this?

    Actual Speed:54 Mbps spacer.gifBand:2.4G Hz

the interface type is what you say 802.11G

I'v been over it with O2 several times, it is just to far from the exchange. It has been up to 2.5 though.

I could pay more for BT infinity which would give me around 10-15 accoding to the people who have it in my street.

I need to decide whether to go with this contract, stay or change to BT.

Go to samknows put in your exchange and see if any other ISPs have LLU first... look here
    http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search
then look at your router stats http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/index.htm and see what your attenuation etc is and post back.
If you have other LLU providers we will know more

Much the same, O2 is the best of a bad bunch. I wouldn't go back to Tiscali if they paid me!

Only you will know, my exchange was LLU'd by TT last 28/8/11 and believe me I get 13.5+ c.f. 5.5 and it has been cheaper and my download attn is 28.0

at your attenuation, the max you could sync at is 2meg d/s. That's a long line, unfortunately, and NO adsl2+ provider is going to improve on your speed, 'coz that's the laws of physics. If you have FTTC available to you, that will be your only way to improve your speed. Bear in mind, though, it's not only BT that supply fibre bb, TT, O2, sky, and any IPStream ISP (i.e. BT reseller) will do so on your exchange, so ask them too. Start with 02 seeing as you're with them already :)

    Mostly not.

The only caveat is that some routers are better at syncing to the exchange at a slightly higher rate than others. If that was the case for you, download speed could be slightly higher, but in the scope of things, it wouldn't make much difference.

Also, if you use N standard wireless adapters with an N standard router, you will find you have a better signal strength for any given range compared to a G standard wireless router.

O2 claim their unlimited option isn't traffic managed unlike what I am on now, will this influence me on 1.5 mB/s? In other words when they 'manage' bandwidth is it limited in proportion or capped at a top speed?
