Hi All
i am new to the forum but would really appreciate some help.At the moment i have my own car and i drive my son to work each day. if i was to apply for a motability car as i am getting the higher rate of mobility allowance because i am disabled would i still be able to do this or not as he works about 7 miles away. Help and advice needed please.

It's your car, can do as you like.0

As long as you are driving, you can drive anyone anywhere you wish.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

thanks for the reply. the reason i am asking is i have been told the motability cars have a tracker fitted on them . and would not want to get into trouble as i would be taking my son to work on a daily basis as well as for my own use.0

to my knowledge motability cars do not have trackers on them, and I'm not sure if all manufacturers do it, but Ford allow a 20,000 mile limit per year.0

From experience, it's a 20,000 mile limit on the insurance, however the person that told me this is driving a Ford.
It's your car, you can do what you like with it.

HiYa maries1951,
- you may be confused with the new 5 mile rule
- the new 1st Jan 2012 rules are here
- no - no trackers - someone is trying to frighten you - its not trueDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. The Disabled : If years cannot be added to their lives, at least life can be added to their years - Alf Morris - ℜ0 -
You might also be getting confused by an argument which rages on here at regular intervals: can the nominated driver use the car to get to and from work if the disabled person is not in the car? I shan't repeat it here as it's not relevant, but it could be what you're thinking of.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Sorry to disagree but trackers are being fitted to some cars. Check the Motobility link below.

The use of location trackers
The Motability lease package includes cover for two named drivers, however regardless of who is driving; the car should always be used for the benefit of the disabled customer. To ensure that our customers are gaining direct benefit from their Motability car, Motability has started to fit a limited number of location trackers to applications for new cars where the risk of potential misuse is highest, for example customers who permanently live in a care home and have a number of drivers who have access to the car.
We expect to fit location trackers in fewer than five percent of the more than 600,000 cars leased through Motability. Where a location tracker has been identified as appropriate we will always speak to the customer in advance of the tracker being fitted. Data will only be collected on the location of a car at any given point and we will only make use of this data where we receive a report, or suspect, that a car may be being misused.
Location trackers are just one of the many ways that we act to protect the Scheme from misuse and to ensure that the cars are used for the benefit of our customers.0
