To what extent can you self-study to drive without paying for instructors?

After £900 in lessons and driving tests, failing twice, I decided it would be better for me to get provisional insurance and take the test in my own car. I would be buying insurance anyway when I pass and the price wouldn't change for me. I payed £1600 for the provisional insurance, which is £133 a month and it is how long I'm giving myself to prepare for my third test. Before hand to get insurance for the day of the test in my instructors car it would be £80! So here I am saving that amount and I can practice as much as I want, without paying £20 per hour and it always infuriated me how my driving instructor would waste time, hence my money, during my lessons. I know all the basics, all I need is to just get comfortable on the road and gain more experience. The only thing I would be worried about though is the test routes, it will majorly help if you'er familiar with them but then again, the sign of a good driver is being able to handle any situation whether you've been in it before or not!0
