I've just received this text from my boss. The mind now boggles. I was going to go into work tomorrow, but now who knows? I know he likes a drink...but c'mon...

' You built yourself up as the best web developer in the world...and there are still spelling errors in EVERY one of your sites.
MZ !!!!ING MSC! You looked down your nose at my site I built in Serif WebPlus...even though yours was utter !!!!! Just like most of your other sites! I DEFY you to find any errors on my sites. I will learn Joomla/CMS myself and I personally guarantee that all my future efforts will !!!! all over your efforts.'

Curiouser and curiouser...to be honest, i'd rather be more worried about coding mistakes than spelling mistakes (sites are content managed, so it's up to the client to spell correctly imho).

I merely sent him a message tonight, saying we should have a meeting about procedures, shoud this type of thing happen again if i'm off sick. Now, i'm not sure what to make of this?! It's all very aggressive and a bit mad tbh!

Oh dear, an expletive-laden text at almost 2am on a weekend? Sounds like someone's had a drink or two... Make sure you keep hold of this and I'd be seeking legal advice before returning to work as it sounds as though he's a little unhinged TBH. From what's been said on this thread, I think it's wise to start looking for a new job. Did you ever send them the passwords?

TBH you are all sounding as bad as each other. You are too sick to look at a screen to send passwords to the company that own the passwords, but not too sick to look at a screen to post on here. The boss sends a nasty text in the early hours of the morning. Etc., etc. It's pretty simple. If you are any good as a web designer, then either set up on your own or go find another job that pays more. Then none of you will have to put up with each other.

I strongly recommend you start looking for another job. When you go back in on Monday, try to be calm and if necessary apologise if they are offended by anything you said while off, as you were ill and think you were a bit sensitive/short-tempered as a result.

Try and put something in place so if you are ill again they have all the passwords to be able to do everything while you are away. Don't give them any software you have bought yourself.

Did you consider as Office Manager it might be her responsibility to ask you for log ons so the manager can make changes in your absence - rather then her doing the work herself?

I think try and smooth feathers so you can leave on OK terms.

I don't think you are going to get a good reference out of this company!

Are you sure it's from your boss, and not the girlfriend using his phone?
  • Bit of a problem, as they're now claiming that my password book which I keep hidden away in a filing cabinet isn't there. I'm taken the day off to see my GP regards work related stress. My father is in hospital after having just had a serious op for colorectal cancer, and between that & this going on at work, and the text message, i'm at my wits end.
On the plus point, I got in touch with another 'proper' design agency yhis morning, who like some of my work, and want to meet me with a view to giving me some briefs to do on some Joomla sites, as they're stretched with work.

How is this a problem? You have already said that you have the passwards on your hard drive at home. So send them / give them the passwords.

Office manager is stumping the boss. It's a battle you won't win. Leave. They're not worth the bother. Let madam try and do the sites herself.

Not only do I suggest you start looking for another job; I suggest you start looking for another career if you believe that it's acceptable to:

    a) Hold client site usernames and passwords on your personal computer and then be obstructive about passing them on when you're off sick
    b) Be dismissive of spelling mistakes on sites you're creating for clients

You honestly sound as bad as your bosses and let's not kid ourselves here; you're hardly dying if you can drag yourself to the keyboard to post long and detailed complaints about your employers but you can't spare the 2 minutes it would take to send them site log-ins that they need to run their business.

The entire company sounds like a total bunch of cowboys...god help their clients!
