Postie signed for recorded item and left it outside..

Not sure about the forgery part but this happens quite often with me. I collect certain items which are quite small but somewhat valuable. Sellers always send the items signed for. 9 times out of 10 I get home from work to find the item put through he letter box, obviously not having obtained a signature. I assume they always try though as when I'm in they knock on the door and I sign for it.
I consider it a favour really, saves me a trip to the sorting office.0 -
None of your post makes sense. If, and only if, there is a forged signature, the sender has what he paid for.The seller would certainly be unhappy that they had paid for recorded delivery and it wasn't honoured.
Whether or not the fake signature is on a piece of paper or a handheld device, it is still forgery.
But nobody knows this has happened. It's an assumption.0 -
I still don't think it has been clarified as to whether the OP knows it was signed for , or is guessing it was signed for because it was just left.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. But nobody knows this has happened. It's an assumption.a. "The seller would certainly be unhappy that they had paid for recorded delivery and it wasn't honoured."The OP said that it was left in a bin. Therefore it wasn't a recorded delivery, which is what the sender paid for.b. "Whether or not the fake signature is on a piece of paper or a handheld device, it is still forgery."The thread title is "Postie signed for recorded item and left it outside..".
Another poster said "What forgery? The signature is on a handheld, not on the packet.".0 -
It was delivered though. And if, again if, it was signed for at the premises, the seller has got what he paid for. There is no person to person service in the UK.
If the title is correct, both seller and buyer got what they paid for.
But we still don't know. Recorde delivery very rarely updates on the website same day.0 -
Our lovely postman is always doing this for us. We had a different one two days this week, so we will have to go to the sorting office to collect. Usual one would have left it somewhere for us, whether recorded or too large for the letter box. He has done this for years, and nothing has ever gone astray. Not even my £2k engagement ring that he left in the recycling bin four years ago:eek:...well he wasn't to know that's what is was, was he?!I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

No, but you're always taking the risk hat it will be - and that it would be then impossible for the buyer to get their money back. If that £2K ring had been stolen or recycled, you would be here spitting blood with the best of them. It's a stupid place to put ordinary post, never mind a valuable item like that (though we don't have bins, we just have special bags and crates for recycling).
I agree RD items are neither here nor there, given the relatively low value, but I was a bit worried about my Olympics tickets earlier in the summer and being notified that they were at the place our mail is kept. In the event, the email notification told me that they had been delivered to the PO, signed for and accepted even before I'd even seen those emails or been to collect them. I had a physical card left as well, so I was OK, but that would have made me worry a bit.
Following the rules might make it less convenient, but it probably saves people from the risk of something happening to the item. Plus I've paid for an RD service that hasn't been delivered, which is not something nice in itself - I generally don't buy RD items for this particular reason - because the item just gets left for me and I've paid an extra pound for no good reason - but there are some items where there's not much choice."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

My usual postman very rarely asks me to sign for the RD items. He just leaves it tucked away inside the open porch. When I come downstairs for the mail, I always check if any parcels have been left. I don't have a problem with that and I haven't lost anything yet!0

Bliney, everyone's getting a bit touchy on here lately:beer:
I've had problems with postman signing for recorded items and posting them or leaving with a neighbour. I've also been asked to sign for recorded items for neighbours. One postman insisted that he was doing me a favour signing for parcels and leaving them on the doorstep, even though I told him I went past the sorting office 4 times a day, so wasn't a problem me going in.
The system for recorded is a bit of a mess, personally I think they should do away with recorded for parcels and just keep it for letters..0
