Landlord Scum!

Is the LA a member of ARLA? You could complain to them - I know it's (apparently) not the LA's fault. But it might help you get to the !!!!er that did this to you."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.0 -
Don`t move!
Explain your current situation to your landlord and till him / her you`ve got to stay a bit longer. From what you`ve said you seem like pretty decent tenants and are still paying the rent so that should not be a major problem. Your present landlord will have to deal with the current situation as best he or she can. That`s business.
In the past, we had all kinds of crap coming our way from the landlord when the !!!!!!! decided that he no longer wanted `benefit types` (excuse me, I am disabled and unable to work) living in their home (which was crap, but at the time we thought it was good - until we moved to our present place, which is very fine with a decent landlord). Rather than let it get us down we decided not to move until we had found somewhere suitable (i.e. somewhere we liked). You may get letters from the landlord / solicitor / court but DO NOT STRESS!!!
Our landlord had to wait six months until we found somewhere suitable to live, and - as we were paying rent in full and on time - there was nothing the !!!!!!! could do about it. In fact, the more he went to court (twice), the more he had to pay legal fees etc (seeing him leave in a strop was priceless!!) In the court`s view we were still paying the rent and had done nothing wrong, so if he wanted us to leave it would have to be when we were ABLE to do so. We also got help from housing advice centres, citizens` advice bureau, etc etc. The days of just casting families onto the street should be over, along with slavery, wife-beating, child labour etc etc etc.
If you want more info. please email me (david_byfield@hotmail.com) as I really hate to see avaricious scum feed off the bones of those less `fortunate`(??!!) than themselves. The last thing I want is for you to have to live somewhere you don`t want to or have to go the B&B route as that`s just 100% out of order.
Love to you and family :money:
David

Reading your story is beyond comprehension. I would definitely pursue this matter because this is outrageously disgusting to have done this to you.
I am not sure about chat forum etiquette but I would suggest you name and shame this letting agent to everyone in here, so all MSE readers can be made aware.
This letting agent definitely needs to understand what his selfish twisted business plans have done to a family like yourself and if we can prevent him from getting some more custom then so be it.0 -
It would have been good to have the tenancy agreement signed, before planning your move?
Also, I don't think you can really trust the Letting Agent aswell, they should have got you to sign the AST before hand!!!
It wouldn't surprise me, if they were in on it!!!...their only thinking of lining their pockets at the end of the day!!!:mad:0 -
...Apparently the landlord had agreed to let to them 3 weeks ago with another agent but had been stringing us along as insurance!!!! Our agent had even rung him on Friday to say our references were okay and he didn't let on....
It seems that the landlord had instructed two agents. Sounds like the landlord is at fault here not the agents. From his behaviour so far, you may be better off with a different landlord.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Judging on your response, I wonder why landlords don't want you in their properties?
And all this hate towards landlords??? Get a grip!!! :doh:0 -
"I had sympathy with you until you loaded everyone into the same bracket with I hate amateur 'my one property is my pension' types."
Ah - so we now deserved to be made homeless just because we have had previous bad experiences? What does that say?
Well, it wasn't the letting agent's fault - neither of them. But I'm afraid there may be good and bad landlords, but the ones with a proffessional portfolio / involvement in the building business rather than being just out to make capital gains have shone through. We have had (over many years) - cheapo landlord sending his mate around to dismantle gas boiler (he kept looking at a DIY book to see what to do), landlord at uni saying that he didn't have the cash to fix a leaking roof that month (water pouring through fizzing light fitting), and now this. Congratulations to your tenants if you really are professional but a single property owner. However, the bad has so far outweighed the good by a long way.
Oh - and we couldn't sign the new lease before ending the old one as the new landlord wanted us in within 2 weeks (and actually negotiated on this) and it took 10 days to do references. No landlord would sign a contract without them I doubt very much. So protecting yourself in this way is made very hard.0 -

Hi Uncle Fester
I guess landlords end up not wanting us in their properties because we know the law (yes I know, I`m one of those types). As for getting a grip, well I`m afraid that in most cases landlords have been !!!!!!. I`m not saying ALL of them, JUST most are !!!!!!

The worst thing that can happen is I get nasty emails; after that I`ll whack up anyone who comes round me yard hassling me! :beer:0
