I sorted out the problem with logging into MSE, so I'm not a technophobe after all.
DH kept to the weekly shopping budget yesterday and managed to get some bargains which we'll use for next week's menu plan, including a couple of steaks.
I had to spend some more money last night which really was washing money down the drain. We have (still have) a blocked kitchen sink, so after trying bleach, bicarbonate etc, decided to buy the proper stuff. What a waste. I still have to unblock the sink, aargh!
Today will be a NSD for me and a quiet one. I'll make some Yorkshires, hoover through the house and walk the dogs but other than that I don't have any plans which is quite nice.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
My plans have been changed for me today. I've now got 5 people to feed later, so have had to spend some money to get some extra food in as not enough time to defrost anything properly but hey ho I'm looking forward to the lively company.
Have just got back from a long walk with the dogs.
MSE thingy of the day: have applied for a free raised planter and seeds.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Right well this will be a bit of a ramble as I'm still doing paid stuff and trying to get my head in gear to remember MSE stuff. Ok so have four items definitely selling on fleabay. Have transferred over £80 from ppay to my bank. Expenses have gone in bank so I transferred a little to savings. Will keep trying to do this each day if I don't need the money for anything unexpected.
DD says our car is making a funny noise. It was only serviced last week so I'm hoping its just ice/cold weather related. Well I can dream!
Think tonight will be a late one re paid stuff but I'm waiting on info at the moment, so time to start preparing tea I think. Salmon, rice and garlicky green beans for us.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
The car is fine, so just the ice causing problems, so that's good. Today, I have squirrelled away another £10 to savings and found 20p on the front path which has gone into my coppers pot.
Suprisingly one of my items on fleabay has 25 watchers and 11 bids. I am beginning to like fleabay.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
And today has been a NSD, at last. I've sold 4 items on fleabay and am relisting those that haven't sold as its minimum effort.
I am so looking forward to the weekend. Tomorrow, I have the day to myself and no real plans: I MAY take the dogs for a walk, pavements permitting, I MAY post the fleabay parcels that have paid tonight, same reason. DH is doing main weekly shop so I can pretty much please myself.
And on Sunday DH will be home. It will be so nice to have a whole day together with no paid stuff getting in the way.
Have a great weekend, lurkers.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
So this morning I have wrapped and posted the four fleabay parcels, actually sold five out of eight items in the end but one hasn't paid yet, I've taken the dogs for a lovely walk in the snow, and popped to the baker.
I was tempted to go to the big sale at the outdoor goods store locally to get some fur lined wellies, but I'm managing ok with the boots I've got, so in true MSE style decided against it. Might not help with the local economy though.
Just about to have a cuppa and a toasted teacake. I need to hoover downstairs, sew a few bits and pieces, read the paper and other important stuff like practising the keyboard. To my shame I've not been near it for a couple of weeks since learning to read music again became more complicated than learning a new language!Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Well best laid plans and all that. The grocery budget is really low this month, probably the least we've spent in a month in 6/7 years, yes really. Thanks MSE. The savings are slowing creeping up too, BUT sick dog needs an unexpected trip to the vet tomorrow which won't be covered by insurance, so I'll need to transfer some money from savings to current just in case.
Have been paid for last item on fleabay so at least thats some extra in the pot.
MSE thingy of the day (well yesterday really): Old dogs coat's velcro was failing, and instead of getting a new coat as I would have done in the past, it's now done up with buttons!
Have a great day readers/lurkers.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
MSE thingies: Got two free tickets for cinema next Tuesday, so looking forward to that.Spend less now, work less later.0

Well what a week it's been. Very snowy but easier to get about than last week's frost and ice, so two out of three dogs have had their walks. I'm going to try to take SickDog out tomorrow to see how she goes as she's been resting the bad leg all week. And LittleyDog was also unwell this week and is now on meds for colitis and enjoying a chicken and rice diet, so a week of unexpected expense, and all before pay day too.
Our new month started on Thursday and I'm pleased to say that the GC budget for last month was low (for us) again although not the lowest ever, although some of that is because we stocked up a bit before this most recent bit of snow hit. Our finances, thanks to MSE and having a second freezer, are looking better than ever before and our savings have increased. I also have to pay a big bill this month and have not had to worry about it at all.
There is still money in the pot for entertainment too, so in addition to two FREE trips to the cinema in the next week or two, we will also be going out for a couple of meals (using taste card of course) and a trip to the theatre. We're actually planning a trip to the theatre once a month for the next few months and if we buy four lots of tickets at the same time, one show will be free. And there's plenty we want to see so spoilt for choice really.
In the month just gone, we ate out once and got one takeaway, but I really think we're done with takeaways now. We seem to have found our ideal 'fakeaway' which is a box of chicken on the bone with spicy wedges and hm coleslaw. Delicious and less than half the cost of a takeaway.
Today, we've just done a little local shopping. If we get the thaw we're promised we may do a big monthly shop tomorrow. If we do, it will be the first since end Nov/beg Dec.
Right, so I'm going to spend a little time now reading the forums and then take two dogs out again and then hopefully relax for the rest of the day. HM pizzas tonight.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Well I certainly had time to relax yesterday. After taking LittleyDog and OldDog for their second walk I came over all funny. Can't put my finger on it but had to have a quick nap and was pretty much good for nothing for the rest of the day. I think I may have spent too much time out in the cold yesterday. Anyway, I caught up with reading this week's papers so every cloud!
Today, we have the promised thaw with the odd squally shower. DH and I took all 3 dogs for a short walk and SickDog did ok, so I'll continue to take her for short walks for the rest of the week and then increase it if she's still alright.
We decided not to go to town to do a big monthly shop, so I've done an online delivery order from Mr T instead, just for the things they're cheaper on. Everything else is not urgent or can just wait anyway. The total cost came out the same as if we'd driven and got it ourselves, so pleased with that. Just that this PC is soooo slow it drove me mad.
Also, glad to report that the debt is coming down at a steady £900 per month, so lots to be positive about at the moment.
I need to get myself moving now. I need to bath the dogs and hoover/sweep/mop through the house at the very least.
Hope anyone lurking is ok.Spend less now, work less later.0
