Selling MOT failure
My car has failed it's MOT and the cost for repairs plus the cost of a breakdown last month meant I opted to buy another car.
Please can I get some advice on the best way and get some value back on it?
It's a 98 Mondeo with a month old Alternator and Battery.
It failed it's MOT for:
Excessive play in roll bar
Corrosion on Suspension
Exhaust Emissions
It also had advisories on corrsion on exhaust box and deterioriation on number plates.
It is MOT'd until the end of the month.
So far the best quote I have is £150 for it. Can I do better?
Thanks
SB

I would put it on eBay, with no reserve, I be surprised if you did not get more. Having a months MOT left in particular helps.0

Agreed, Ebay as spares or repairs and don't be bullied into ending the auction early by dealers making silly offers.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

I'd have got it repaired. The parts for the roll bar are a couple of quid, no idea about corrosion on suspension as it could mean anything. Exhaust emissions probably fixed by a service and a good run out.
There is no way you'd buy anything any better for the cost of the repairs.0 -

The corrosion needed some simple welding.
The emissions hadn't been cured by an 'Italian tune up'. View of mechanic was that cat needed replacing. I'd had an expensive breakdown the previous month so I took the view that at over 150k mileage it was time for something newer.0 -
It's scrap value is £200ish, you can normally expect a bit more on ebay. I'd take £200 to end early and save yourself ebay fees.
Scrap steel prices are high and have been for a couple of years now.
I let my last old scrap car go too cheap (£150), had offers for over £200 after it had been collected!0 -
150k its just been run in lol..
agree with the close to £200 as scrap plus remove the battery and sell that if you can get the alternator off too sell that aswell.
whats the readings on the emissions and whats the exact wording on the fail sheet?Sealed pot challenger # 10

Think scraps dropped quite a bit recently, it's always a bit less up here but I'm hearing £100ish a ton for cars (got £135 a ton in February).0 -
You could list it on eBay as having MOT until end of month and act dumb about its recent failure..?

Failures are recorded these days so that would be little bit silly, you may pull that stunt on the wrong person. I'd be completely honest and upfront about the faults, that way you're not going to got out to your car one morning to find it keyed, tyres slashed or windows smashed.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0
