Also the problem is too many people think eCommerce is a cash cow - actually, it's quite difficult to get off the ground. It's easier to sell on eBay than it is to convert from your own platform, and as we all know eBay is getting much difficult as a sales platform due to the high number of competitors and buyers demand for lower and lower prices.
This false belief leads people in to making bad decisions - like has been done here.
EDIT:
Just realised these websites are actually just platforms with affiliate links -- LOL some people really are mugs!0 -
Out of curiosity, how did you guys find this website in the first place?0

YOS target market are people who don't have enough knowledge to know what they're really buying.
And ofcourse making those sorts of income claims will only lead to trouble. I wonder what the 'click through rate' is for the adwords income? because I don't think you can expect more than 10 to 15%.
Another thing, the coding of their sites are very poor, if you have a quick hunt around the source code you'll see html elements outside the <html> tags, this guy is an absolute rookie.
With the right tools you could set up a datafeed driven affiliate site for around £300. It's not hard, buy the software yourself - Price Tapestry for example is £200 then sign up with the affiliate merchants etc, there you have a better quality affiliate site for less than 500, job done.0 -
Hello, my post isn`t to try and say we are better than anyone else who bought a website from YOS as I feel genuinely sorry for the people who have lost money and time, it is just to give some feedback on our experience and what we did.
1. We bought the website myfashionforwomen.co.uk in 2012. Right from the start we wanted to create a brand so the website never launched with this name but as abiento.co.uk as you cannot trademark “ fashion for women” or similar. See the Government trademark website for an explanation of this. We are UK based.
2. And most important, we went straight to an accountant to discuss what we were doing and what we would need to carry out work on our website. They explained that as a new business ( we set it up as a partnership) that wasn`t predicting to make any profit only losses in the near future, we could claim tax back ( based on your personal % rate) on the purchase price of the site, any lap tops and other expenses we may incur such as promotional items, use of electricity in your home whilst working on the site etc. This was very helpful and softened the blow of no income from the site.
3. We didn`t believe the earning figures quoted by YOS so merely set ourselves a target of trying to earn enough money to maybe pay for a holiday once a year ( we are employed elsewhere so the site income isn`t aimed at supporting us).
4. I was genuinely interested in learning about this type of business so the YOS training videos were very helpful and I would like to think we didn`t get any special treatment, although in 2013 we got very twitchy about the support and the YOS servers so we swapped to A2 hosting in the US who have been brilliant.
5. I did put hundreds of hours into the setup, writing content etc and even though the site is now established, we still do around 8 hours per week adding useful information, articles and keeping social sites active etc.
6. We set up social sites and keep regular and importantly, useful and new content on our site.
7. We trademarked abiento® so our brand was protected and also adds potentially to the value of the site if we wanted to sell. It also adds credibility to the site for visiting customers.
8. We made sure our site domain has plenty of years on it as again it adds credibility as not a here today gone tomorrow type website which helps with search results and customer confidence.
9. We carefully monitor our site through Google webmaster tools to make sure all links etc are good and working correctly and also make regular audits of our product links to make sure our customers go where we want them to go and not some random webpage or 404 error page.
10. We have always used long string key words not one or two words.
11. We didn`t become fixated with the “get 250 visitors a day” we just aimed to attract people to the site who would most likely buy. Better to have 10 genuinely interested visitors who buy, than 250 who have just been “tricked” into visiting your site by manipulating back links and clever SEO.
12. We wrote and continue to write our content for human visitors not search robots.
13. We tried and continue to set up our site to be as useful and easy to use as possible for our customers.
14. We have 552 back links currently and all are based on our website`s market ( women`s fashion) not just a back link for a back links sake which is also why I haven`t added a link to our site on this forum, as a link from this website to abiento is not relevant to our website.
15. We knew from the outset that it would take time to become established.
So again, I am not trying to be clever, I am just passing on our experience and maybe giving some people some tips along the way.
Our abiento.co.uk site has currently a PR2 ranking in Google, has 20,000 plus pages indexed in Google and we have a very good spread of page one ranked keywords that gets us regular visitors each day.
We don`t need the 250 visitors a day to exceed our target as our 75-100 a day is sufficient for us.
I won`t share our earnings as that is private, other than to say it has comfortably exceeded our initial target but is nowhere near the YOS predicted earnings. This we can accept only because we didn`t believe the earnings figures in the first place.
Another indication that we are going in the right direction is that rather than us chasing retailers, we get retailers contacting us to ask if we will add their products to our site along with others increasing our commission rates as we have performed well for them.
We have also just released a new site for men`s fashion called abientopourhomme.co.uk which I might add, cost a fraction of the original YOS store, but I am not sure we could have set it up so easily if I had not got the knowledge from the YOS training videos.
So that is what we did with our site and I hope the above is taken in the correct context with which it is meant.0
