Much better than the one you selected and for 35 quid you can get a five year warranty0 -
That looks ok but what is the difference in plain language between that one and this one http://www.shop.bt.com/products/lg-electronics-lg-42pa4500-42in-hd-plasma-tv-with-600hz-and-2-hdmi-820M.html?q=820m?utm_source=retention+email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=email090812&utm_content=PK00
I received an e-mail from BTshop with the one above? Is LCD better than plasma? does it matter? If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
LED if in budget or plasma, LCD has been replaced by LED.

No it hasn't ...LED refers to the backlighting , it is still a LCD screen.lil.smartie wrote: »LED if in budget or plasma, LCD has been replaced by LED.

I think the most important thing for getting a tv these days is making sure its digital, so it works after the switch off.
I havent got a clue what led , or lcd means0 -
We just got a Sharp one for 220 from Argos. The reviews on the site are all very good... does the job.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

I bought a cheap no name lcd a few years back and then replaced it with a Samsung 2 years ago.
The difference in quality was measurable in every respect, especially the picture quality (the sound less so) yet they cost the same price.
I also have a supermarket branded tv in the spare bedroom. To be honest it aint very good and is on it's last legs despite being hardly used.
400 quid will get you a decent brand.....LG,Samsung etc....and 40" plus.
I'd go for that rather than a no name and save 50 quid.0 -

But how do the shops sell them?? One described simply as LCD is of poorer quality than an LED lit one which is often sold simply as an LED TV. The LED lighting is a huge improvement over the single source of a std LCD TV hence both my distinction and that of manufacturers/retailers.

Dont buy an LG. I used to work for the technical help line of a certain large retailer and the amount of LG TV's that stopped working/blew up in the first few months was unreal - in fact my own Mum's LG LCD went bang after just three days.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

lil.smartie - you're wrong, and you've been taken in by the marketing guff.
An LCD screen is lots of tiny pixels with a light behind them. They block the light different amounts - letting all the light through for white, or trying to block it completely for black. And all the colours in between. To date, the light has come from, basically, a fluorescent tube. LED simply replaces this tube with some LEDs. Sometimes round the edge, sometimes behind, sometimes they can be brighter in some places, sometimes not.
To simply say 'LED is better than LCD' is wrong. A £200 Bush LED TV will not give as good a picture as a £400 Sony with traditional lighting.
An LED backlit LCD CAN be better - purer white, less energy consumed, thinner TV, better blacks if it has localised dimming etc, but you must not simply say LED is better.
Anway, ali-t - we've got a budget, now how about a screen size - I don't know what an average screen size is - if you get a tape measure, and measure bottom left to top right of the screen (not the edges, just where the picture is), we'll establish what size of TV you currently have. You also need to measure up to find out what size of TV you can fit do you not?
Anyway, that TV you link to in the BT shop - it's a great price for a TV of that size, and the drawback is that it's not full HD, and doesn't have an HD tuner, just standard Freeview.
Just from a very quick look, I'd rather have this, for £420, which is full HD and does have Freeview HD...
