O2 Upgrade

I'm starting uni in September and am looking to cut costs. I'm eligible for an upgrade with O2 now. My current usage is around 100minutes, 500 texts and 100mb of data and I own an iPhone 4.

O2 have offered me a 12 month contract with 300mins, unlimited texts and 100mb of data for £10.50 a month with the option to upgrade in 6 months. I'm just wondering, is this "option to upgrade" a red herring and should I leave for a cheaper Sim-only contract with another network or is it worth sticking with O2 for the chance to take a new iPhone in 6 months?

With the sim only contracts the option to updgrade is available on 12 months its on month 6 usually.

It's a red herring, you will still be able to get the next iPhone on O2 when it comes and might even get a better deal as a new customer plus you'll be able to compare deals from other networks which you won't be able to do if you're locked into a 12 month contract with them. You would be better off on a one month sim only.

For your usage, Virgin Mobile's sim only makes sense, you get 125 minutes 2500 texts and 250MB internet for £7 a month on a one month contract.
