Bmw 1 series advice needed
Hi, could someone please advise me.... I seem to be constantly getting screwed over by BMW. I have an 09 1 series 120D SE and since having this car from new I have had an endless number of problems which of course has annoyed me and it furthermore continues to do so!
I am not very technical so I am not sure of all the actual things which have had been done but to name a few, complete electrical unit replaced after a year, twice I had to have the diesel partiucalate filter thing done, front footwell control unit or something and now I have just taken the car in because it was playing up and they have informed me that I need the flywheel doing!!!!!!!!!!! In addition to this Sytner have said that they advise that I need to get the clutch done too because it would make sense to but they cant see any wear it or any damage from the flywheel.
Due to all the problems, my warranty was due in 03/12 but BMW kindly offered me one year free warranty. This doesnt seem to have eased my mind or of any of the problems as they were even shocked to the problems I have had on such a new car! I am so stressed. I have spent so much money on this car already and it doesnt seem to end.
They have quoted me £156.00 for a new clutch as I wont need to pay labour. What do you advise. I am very clueless like most girls when it comes to cars!
Please advise, thanks guys.

If you do a low mileage, you were ill-advised to get this diesel in the first place. Saying that, the dmf is problematic on this car and at first BMW told owners they were not driving them properly! (using the huge torque at idle instead of giving them revs when pulling away).
It might seem fatalistic, but I would get the car fixed and sell on as a one-owner, fully serviced car and get a 3 series petrol to replace it.0 -
It sounds like the dual mass flywheel has failed and they are recommending a new clutch while its stipped down, probably sound advice and not bad value if you are only paying for parts. What mileage has the car done?0

I'd suggest having a look over on the specialist forums such as www.babybmw.net.
What sort and type of miles do you do. If the DPF has failed twice now it would suggest you're not going on enough long journeys. It also sounds like you're getting a new clutch and flywheel due to the well known "clutch judder" problem with this model. If they've offered a free extended warranty how come they're chargng you labour or does the wrranty just cover parts?0 -
Its done 43k which isnt too bad. I give it a good run on the motorways!
the clutch judder was mentioned but it hasnt juddered though, it was just the engine and car itself that was shaking and sounding like a tractor.
The flywheel is covered under warranty. However the clutch isnt so I have to pay for that. As the car is stripped they wont charge me labour for the new clutch. So what do I do? Get him to put new clutch in?0 -
Yeah pretty sound advice from the above couple of folks! I've got a Diesel and the particulate filter is a pain in the a**e! I only do short journeys and have had no end of problems with it... I'd reccomend just going for a long motorway drive (15 - 30 mins) once a month to get the exhaust hot enough to 'clean' itself!0

To add to your woes I would Invest in a steering lock, BMWs are a doddle to pinch, 3 mins to steal a 1M! http://video.uk.msn.com/watch/video/stolen-bmw-1m/2ty72r9x0

we had the same issue with the judder on a 56 plate bmw 320d touring, had 4 bmw's now and none have been ultra reliable just good as company cars. Now got an Audi and thats a bit better for reliability. In fairness the dealers have always been very good.0

I think I have decided to go ahead and get the damn clutch done for ease of mind and just so its then sorted. I feel like calling BMW and giving them a piece of my mind!0

There does seem to be a must-have-diesel mentality building over the last 5+ years ... this is surely a myth, not saying you fell for it OP mind but just in general public perception. I always stick to petrol.0

heres my perspective.
DMF gone to the DMF scrap yard, this is a problem that BMW has said that they will rectify, however due to the failure the clutch is going to get ditsurbed by the srtip down, and a new one will be needed, i would not be accepting that i pay for a new clutch due to a failure of the flywheel that is covered by a warranty.
saying that for ease of life, i would ask if their charging retail price on that clutch plus vat, if so i would be saying if the DMF hadnt failed i would not need a clutch and ask for the COST price plus vat if the clutch instead.0
