    I saw that program on BBC daytime about 3-4 weeks back. Interesting program just goes to show how supermarkets/shops manipulate us

    It's really scary how all Tesco stores look the same on the inside. The front view of the elevators looks *identical* to my local store, and I was convinced that it was! Just shows how Tesco have got everything down to a fine art.... whether it's good fine art or not is open to interpretation!

    Well if you were building X thousand stores you'd want them all to feel the same to your customers AND carry the savings of having certain things made in bulk wouldn't you ;)

  • The front of the store, and the ramp, was identical to the tesco extra in Borehamwood...

    I've got a good book called the undercover economist and it goes into some ideas that were looked at on this show, i've got my own personal rules for supermarket shopping:

    * don't go hungry
    * know how much cupboard/freezer space you have at home - don't buy anything that won't fit
    * know how many meals you want to buy in advance
    * work out the price per kg on meat with and without the special offers
    * If i see a BOGOF of a product i regulally use, buy multiple, but don't be tempted to buy a product i don't want just because it's cheap

    It may help that my mum's old job was as a researcher in a 'fake' research supermarkey (back in the 70s) into product placement

    I watched the show but found it had the same impact as the Barclays show on the Beeb the other day which "revealed" there are fraudsters, bullies and liars in the world of banking. I guess we all need a prompt now and then to remind us, but when you think about it, it's quite obvious why stores are designed like they are and why products are placed like they are - profit! When we're selling a house we present it to sell to a certain market and have nice smells of baking bread and coffee in the kitchen... on ebay, we use our little tricks to sell an unwanted ugly jumper our Aunt bought for Christmas - we're just like them:S
