Thanks for replys but say you went to Asda with a list but when you got there there was some things that were reduced or good deals say buy one get one free would you buy these things as well as what is on your list. This is my problem i have tried going with a list but should i stick to that list even though i see these offers?

in general I stick to my list but yes if things are on a good offer or reduced I will waver then use them in the following weeks meal plan. I only do this with things that will defo get used up in the near future.

I'm the same as Lynsayjane, I will buy the offers but only if they will get used. Remember - its only a bargain if you like it.

I tried shopping monthly but it didn't really work for us, now do a weekly shop and it's so much more managable... as for offers, if there is something we use a lots of and it's a good offer and we have the spare money then yes we stock up...esp things like beans/.chopped toms/ rice/pasta we know we'll use it so it's saving money but if the budget is really tight then we'll just pretend it's not there, these offers are on regularly enough to stock up when we're having a better month.

We prefer weekly too with a weekly menu planner, have done it fortnightly as well but tend to run out of things towards the end.

I do a fortnightly menu plan, but shop weekly.

This way i make sure im using up those bits and pieces in the cupboard, i sit armed with my freezer and pantry inventory and work out what meals i can make with stuff i already have, and just need to get bits for, like tonight we have had pizza and garlic bread, the garlic bread i already had, the pizza base i made, i already had cheese and sweetcorn so i just bought a red onion when i went shopping as i like mine a bit more tasty !
Without my list i would have probably bought a pizza base and the toppings to go with the garlic bread !

I freeze my bread in individual portions as me and DD only use 4 slices a day and i also keep 4 pints of milk in there to make sure i dont have to go shopping in the week and therefore avoid temptation :)

I firmly believe I am addicted to food shopping :o

We have never been able to meal plan, my DH works nights and rarely eats with me and the kids.

I can go for bread and milk, and come out having spent a fortune, I have to go up and down each aisle.

Hopefully, I have come up with a cunning plan.

My DD went to Tesco alone for the first time on Saturday, we only needed mushrooms (it's only a 5 minute walk away). Well, she thought it was great, and has asked each day since if we need anything, and can she go for it for us.

In future, if we only need a few bits, she will got for me, and it will save me a fortune :D

i tend to go to costco and spend a fortune on things like chicken breast, mince, etc then top up at asda once every couple of months and shop locally for my fruit and veg ,milk etc it works out cheaper for us (but no by an awful lot) oh and star drops you just cant beat them
