Sky deals help

Just came off the back of a renegotiated 6 months Sky reduced package and being told that they stopped offering deals in Dec.

Has anyone else had this experience? tried the NTL offering cheaper but to no avail - seems Sky don't care if you stay or not.

I'd like to move but can't get cable in my area so stuck with Sky - unless of course you know better

  • I left Sky last year in a bid to save money and study more ! They have called me again today to offer me a family package for half price ( 7.50 a month) I stayed strong but when I was leaving they sent me promtional stuff / called me and convinced me to stay.
When they ask you why you are leaving just say it's cheaper for you to go to cable ( they dont know you can't get cable) or say you are thinking of going to freeview.
Say it's purely the money and you love sky and they may well offer you some more deals... if they dont you could always cancel over the summer ( hopefully the weather will be good therefore more time outside :j )
Then when they call you to lure you back you can grab the better deals ?

I do miss sky one and living but i am watching far less TV

I rang Sky last month to try and get a better deal from them as they weren't offering broadband in my area. They only offered me a Sky+ box to stay - big deal.

I think so many people are defecting from Virgin, they aren't bothered about losing their existing customers - which, I guess, is understandable.

The best stragegy is not to call to negotiate a better deal but to call and ask to cancel it. You'll be then be passed on their Cancellations Department who have the power to offer you some sort of a deal. Don't worry your subscription will not be cancelled imediately as you need to give them 30 days notice. If you don't get anything from them you can reactivate your subscription anytime before the 30 days notice is up.

sky are too powerful at the moment, they aren't interested in their customers as they know that the alternatives aren't that great. their main rival (virgin) are now a lot worse off so sky have no need to bend over backwards for people. Trust me i've tried!

I think its a disgracefull attitude really and their once nice customer support people have turned into very nasty people.

(still i'll not be dropping them - i like lost too much!)

I did what you said last month I was offered a second hand sky + box wow:rolleyes: the guy spent about 20mins trying to get me not to cancel, I now have ,this morning I got a letter from them offering me 3 months at half price,so the moral of the story is cancel it stop paying THEN they will offer you a package to return.:j

    Hi,

I cancelled my sky subscription in december last year. Last saturday i phoned them up saying i was thinking of subscribing again and was there any discounts on offer. Straight away i was offered the full package half price for 3 months.:D
Couldn't believe it as the week before they'd phoned me offering me 10% off for 1 year, saying they didn't do half price offers anymore!
    Try phoning, you never know.

I left Sky last year , i got fed up paying their Greedy price rises every year, also 200+ channels of crap is too much for even the most die hard couch potatoe. I got a freeview set top box and to be honest it does the job , i did miss Sky 1 for a while but not the movies (too many repeats).
I got around the problem of missing 24 and Lost etc by watching them via the internet, and discovered that movies are cheaper to rent on dvd than subscribe through Sky.
Sports was never a problem as i always go to the pub to watch the footy.
When you go through a cancellation with Sky, the offer they give you seems good at the time , but, it's just their way of hanging onto another fed up customer for a bit longer. (work out how much you spend a year with Sky ,it's frightening)
If everyone of their customers stood up and said 'hang on a minute your getting to greedy' they'd have to do something about, i wander how many customers they lose each year?
  • I cancelled SKY 2 months ago,it was one of my better decisions.

My eldest son is getting on better at school (very little kids TV), and they are all a happier bunch-except the misssus who missed some telly.

We missed SKY + ,but bought a PC with freeview and windows media center, and it records the same way as SKY + does, but from freeview.

All in a good move - save £46 per month and a calmer house.

Also the kids are playing outside more rather than watching TV.:D
    baldly going on...
