Insurance against water damage?

I thought I'd ask this here as when I'd asked on the I-wanna board no one replied.

Are there any insurance companies which insure against water damage for ipods? I don't have a phone/mobile but do have an ipod and worry about it ever getting wet or being damaged. I'd like to insure it but have heard so much about companies not covering against water damage.

I have no house insurance and have been quoted upwards of £30 a month which for a bedsit flat is way too much- I can't afford that! Are there any other insurance companies out there who wont cost me the price of the item within 6 months?

Someone like "protect your bubble" offer it, but as to how good they are paying out I've no idea.

Ipods are relativly cheap, looking at PYB's web site after £3 to £6 a month to insure it for loss or damage and £25 excess it may be cheaper to not bother and buy a new one if it's damaged.

Sometimes, depends if you need to claim on it or not.

One thing it buys piece of mind and that is priceless...

Not directly, but what you are looking for is an all-risks policy. If there is water damage, hit by lightning or stolen - it'll be covered. First port of call is your home policy, usually as a specified item on your contents policy.

    ;) I can't afford this (as mentioned)

I was quoted £30+ a month for home insurance and I live in a studio flat with no TV, mobile or plush stuff inside (no oven, dishwasher, tumble dryer...etc) so £30 a month seems a bit much to me. I was hoping for less then this.

Check with your bank and see what they offer.

    My policy covers it
Covers the cost of repair or replacement in the event of theft, loss, accidental damage, water and liquid damage, malicious damage and electrical or mechanical breakdown.
It's not just about the money

So you have no insurance for your belongings at all? If there was a fire in your building, or a water leak from above, what would you do ? Seems to me the ipod would be the least of your worries, if you had no clothes and nothing to sleep on.

Insurance is always more expensive in flats I believe (It's to do with shared access to the building, and not knowing what risks other residents take around you), but how many quotes have you had? Try contacting an insurance broker for other quotes, go into a broker's office and sit down to talk to them (look on yell.com for insurance brokers in your town), rather than trying to do it online.
Or ask your near neighbours if you talk to them.

I wouldn't bother insuring the ipod separately. Use it/keep it carefully, and keep some money aside (I save all £2 coins I get in change, then stick them in a deposit account whenever I get £30 to £40 worth), to pay to replace it if it goes wrong.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

Yup, your right, I have no insurance. Its not because I don't want to, its because I can't afford to. Put it this way, I can't even afford at TV license let alone an oven, proper sized freezer, stove/hob...I can't afford a phone, things like holidays and short breaks and the ability to own a passport are things that happen to other people I feel. The third week of every month I struggle to get enough money to eat and I want to pay off my credit card which is close to maxing out. The ipod was a gift over a year ago and aside from the computer and radio what makes my life feel better, hence if it breaks I am going to be very lost. (I know a techno buff so feel a bit safer with the computer.).

I am slowly coming to the conclusion the best thing to do is to put the money slowly onto my credit card and then blow it again if my ipod ever breaks down- though I worry if it breaks within X years I wont have enough on there to replace it due to interest rates (and before anyone suggests, I have tried several times to swap to a 0% interest CC but I always get turned down).

Surely I can't be the only person in the world who doesn't have home insurance?

Sadly, my bank quoted me £37 a month.

Protect my bubble seems like an option but the earlier the claim the higher the excess. Have you considered putting aside 3 or 4 quid a month into a savings account automatically from your bank? At least that way if your iPod breaks you could put it towards a replacement and if nothing goes wrong... You could put it towards a tv license? ;)
