Individual delivered bags (decent stuff) around me are £60 > £70 or I can get three from one supplier for £120. Tend to burn coal and the best deal I have on that is 1 tonne for £280 off the internet with boxes of firelighters thrown in.

I log my own cordwood that's supplied from my tree surgeon mates. It'd be uneconomical to buy wood to use in my stove. Prices here in West Kent vary but average about £60 for a dumpy bag delivered :-/

I have a great supplier near to me, he charges £60 per level pickup for seasoned hardwood cut and split.

I also took delivery yesterday of a builders dumpy bag full of hard wood off cuts from a bespoke furniture manufacturer for £60, absolutely gorgeous wood lots of oak - ash and other hard woods seems a shame to burn it ! but it burns fantastically hot and three or four pieces last for a good hour or more before it need topping up.

Ouch! That's half what I pay down here (Kent) for the infamous 'truck loads' that can mean almost anything.

I've switched supplier (again!) this year and the latest consignment looks pretty good but the logs are a bit on the large size. The way it's been feeling in the evenings this week it won't be too long before I find out how well they burn.
  • A slight detour from the topic I know, however I have 70-80ft Copper Beech tree which needs to be felled I have lots of different prices to do this but was wondering is the wood in the tree any good could I sell it? if so who would buy it?

The tree is not diseased or anything its just in the wrong place (around 12 ft from the back if a semi!!)

Beech is a nice hardwood to burn or sculpt for that matter !

When you get it felled if you can get it chopped into managable sized chunks - then ebay it - buyer to collect, it will sell as fire wood easily, other option is to get in touch with a few wood carvers / sculptors they might like a chunk or two.

Think you will find that the wood itself isnt worth anything until processed, time and effort and equippment involved, which is where the cost/value comes from.

Don't hold your breath, my supplier has said that they simply can't keep up with demand, they can't cut the trees down fast enough.

Yea thats the trouble, cutting them down quick and then selling people un seasoned wood, not good for burning this winter...........

If I havent got seasoned wood then I dont burn wet wood, I burn coal instead, and by buying large lumps they last for ages on the fire, the cheaper small coal goes through the grate pretty quick.......
