Annoying £4 problem

New here but any advice gratefully received to insignificant but annoying problem...
On Sunday I placed an online order with a well-known high street women's retailer. The website offered free express delivery for orders over £30, which mine was. I checked carefully and the only detail given was that it would be 'applied at checkout'. When I got the confirmation email I had been charged £4 for standard delivery so I emailed them for a refund...they refused.
Should I take this further and what type of thing should I say? I totally appreciate it's only a few quid but it's the principle for me. Fed up with big business taking the...
Interestingly, since yesterday the offer now says 'when you select express delivery at checkout'. Someone there presumably thought the previous information was misleading.
Thank You!

So are you saying that the default option at checkout was set to a form of delivery that cost £4, but there was also an option to request free delivery (presumably by a slower method)? If so then I don't see any great issue with them saying that free delivery would be applied at checkout, many websites work like this (Amazon for instance), it's up to you to check what options have been selected before confirming the purchase.0

Tell them if they don't give you the £4 you will send the item back under DSR. They will then have to refund you the £4 and the price of the item.
You can then reorder ensuring you click the right button.
I imagine they will just refund the £4 to save the hassleThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If it said it would be applied at check out and it wasnt then why didnt you check back to see why.
I think you probably havent been as vigilant as you should have been.
Go through the ordering system again (with out actually buying) and see what happens.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Has it been dispatched yet? If not try to cancel and re-order. If it has you can return the goods, but this may well be at your expense.0

If standard delivery is £4 but express delivery is (say) £8, the offer of free express delivery might suggest that they are upgrading the £4 standard delivery for free, i.e. you still pay £4 but get the express delivery. Only the £4 express delivery surcharge is free in other words.0
